Hurlers off to Portugal in a week, should maybe consider a stop off in Fátima.

I presume Davy is going with them.  :)

How are Antrim U20's doing?

JonnyD_

Don't know to be honest.

Big bounce back needed from players.

Good to see bohill back.

Wonder will Davy bring the family again like last year ?

Lads as a down man reading a lot of the comments, where do Antrim really think they should be in the hurling world ?

It's hard to know but it's not that long ago that we played down in the league in ballycran and it was a hammering session. Down have improved since then but we have went backwards. Realistically our best hope would probably be ahead of Kildare and much more competitive against Dublin. It just feel like we have went significantly backwards.

Not losing today on what really should have been a win at all costs game.

I think that you have.

For me the likes of Dublin and Wexford (even though you were robbed down there) are a step above come championship.

Kildare have impressed me any time I've seen them.
They are physically a fairly big team with pace and good team play.
Dowling knows what he's at.
You really should be 10 plus points better than Down  but are stiffled in too much tactics by the looks of it.
There is definitely a drop off in the standard of your defence, too many lads look good in a packed defence with a +1 or whatever they call it but are terrible at one on one defending.
That type of defender is in short supply, the likes of a Graffin, sticky hoors, Antrim don't have them currently.

Streets ahead of Down. I know how that sounds and I don't mean it to be so pompous on our part & dismissive at Down's end so I'll try to explain.

We have been streets ahead of Down at senior inter county hurling for quite a while. To the point that the Ulster championship died. That brings me no satisfaction btw but Down dipped and we probably thought we pushed on a good bit.
Down have bit by bit improved their lot and we have gone backwards very quickly but not surprisingly. We are a comfort blanket county in juvenile hurling and have developed a culture of kidding ourselves about fairly middling success.
This result is an entirely fair reflection of where we are but it's also a bitter reality pill and a dose of what appears to be coming.

That's a great summary of how I feel about the game but couldn't get the words out as eloquently as that DEI. Grma

I'm too quick to say fu!k the manager get him out of the road
We've a tonne of work to do at all levels in all places across the county.
That being said Would this have happened under Darren Gleeson? The answer is no!

I get that, but I'm more interested in the rest should Antrim be competing with Mccarthy cup teams etc in your opinion

imtommygunn

We should be competing to win Joe mcdonagh and yo-yoing between it and the McCarthy... We won't be doing that currently.

All hypothetical as we seem to be on the way down.. Down beat us and by the sound of it deservedly so. Can't begrudge you the win at all.

FirstToTheBall

Not one antrim player has improved under davy, was at the game last night and antrim never ever looked like winning that game, down fully deserving of the victory.

James, coby and keelan all very poor, the backline even worse, i think its fair to say that the players arent buying whatever davy is selling.

They were well worth the victory, every ball went towards them was batted down and 9 times out of 10 it was a down player first to the ball.

Antrim posted a shocking number of wides and so many unforced errors, in all honesty it was a very poor gane to watch.

imtommygunn

It would seem obvious his number is up but the question is who next.

The word from within the camp, according to Neil McManus on the league Sunday show, is that despite results, it's a very happy squad and that the lads like Davy and the coaching. So is it ability? Is McDonagh and teams like Down/Kildare/Laois this teams level?

I thought after the Carlow game when we played well that we would turn a corner but I was wrong. We have regressed. Hopefully time together in Portugal can focus their minds but it's going to take something miraculous to salvage an awful season.
