Anyone overlooking Dungannon as contenders for the Senior Championship would need to reconsider shortly, they put their hand up in big style tonight with that 9 Point win over Carrickmore. Paul Donaghy must be the best forward in the county, his free taking from both sides was outstanding. Paudie McNulty, Conall Devlin and the Jones' also impressive. They also seem a lot more defensively sound under Slater than they have over the previous few years.

Both teams at full strength I assume? Don't think anyone rules out Dungannon,  have been a serious outfit this past 5 years or so

A premier league team wouldn't play that amount of games in that short a period and a county GAA team certainly wouldn't but sure who gives a f**k about the ordinary club player

Players don't mind at all,  any player would prefer to play matches. Sure they would only be training anyway if they didn't have a match.  Games need played,  the club season in Tyrone starts to late is the issue.

Clarkes certainly laid down a marker tonight. As previously said, very solid at the back - don't give away any free kicks in scoring zone. However, they are more composed on the ball going forward than previous years. Not afraid to keep it and wait on the opening to arrive and then they are clinical.

Physically strong, full of running and will be hard to talk to if they can survive the absolutely ludicrous fixture program that the CoBo have put on every team over the next 5 weeks

It's a lot of games over a short period of time but the alternative would have been starting the league earlier and having more starred games which I don't think many clubs would have been happy with. Every club will be on the same boat and it will mean many players who are pushing for a starting place or even a place on the bench will get game time.

Dont understand why he wasn't given more game time when he was there. He has everything you'd want from a forward. Tall, fast, two footed, can score from distance. Not sure why he fell out of favour

Was he out of favour? Played in the 21 season when we won the All Ireland. Full forward line was Dazzler, Mattie & McKenna in semi final and final with Donaghy and Canavan coming off the bench. He got plenty of minutes but maybe he felt he deserved more which is understandable.
He is a top quality player and in fairness to the Clarkes, they know how to use him and get maximum benefit out of his ability.
Two footed, elusive, fast, accurate and not afraid to miss. Goes again at the next opportunity - a really top class super player.

There was a really good point made on this board a few weeks ago, the level of training and prep at club level among the top clubs is akin and likely in some cases better than whats available at county, so for less mileage and general fuckery (a lifestyle choice that could see you cast as grant funded training session fodder and a cold shoulder from mgmt.) you potentially get more enjoyment and more importantly regular games

Two points, there is a balance to be struck where county subs can play club, and Paul Donaghy needs to be back in the Tyrone fold

I definitely had them in the equation for the championship, but that defeat feels significant
