The new kickout rule is a great idea, in the old system for short kickouts a large majority of them went straight back to the keeper and he was used as an extra man to bring the ball out with an overlap. The fact you can't pass back to the keeper now completely changes the dimensions of the short kick put. As has been stated earlier it will create a lot more space and therefore more 1 to 1 contests

I saw enough shorts in this years rules to know there will not be as many 1 v 1s as you suggest especially if the fist pass rule remains the same as it is. Not in favour the new trial rule of three fist passes. I can see the rationale for the change from the 40m arch to the 20m if three fist passes are introduced, imo it will make the game less enjoyable because there will be to much 10 yard foot passes to ensure possession as much as possible, thats ugly.

Exactly. Taking away pass back to goalkeeper was a huge change on its own.

Re: no fisted scores ( unless  the ball is  in-flight )

So if a player was heading towards goal, soloing the ball.  He toe-taps it and when the ball is coming up off his  foot, could he fist it  over the bar , while the ball is in the air?

Technically, he hasn't  fist passed it  out of his hands, so surely that is  considered 'in-flight'?

People would complain about that too no doubt

f**k me. Talk about digging for holes.

Please explain to me why any forward who has found the space to drop the ball onto their foot, would instead of kicking it over bar, choose to attempt a dummy solo and swing their fist at the rising ball.

You won't be able to to.

They probably would but  wouldn't it technically be allowed?

Take a solo, defender closing in so no time to take the ball back down under control and get your kick away, go for the fist. Can see it happening

Well, if it came in , players mightvforget  themselves about the fisting point rule.

I remember Clifford bounced the ball twice , realised he couldn't catch it again so  fisted it while  at head height.

So it could be used where a toe tap might  not be perfect , or a player realises  He can't catch this again or I'll be swallowed up.

But the inherent problem is physics.

Handpassing over a bar generally follows two variants.

1. When a player is moving towards goal at something approaching top speed, and can generate power for the handpass through a fast, full swing of the arm. Let's call this one the Jarly Og.

2. When a player is stationary, and either side on or back to goal. This allows him the additional arc needed to generate enough power to clear the bar. Let's call this one the AOS.

While physics would not prevent anyone generating a full swing of the arm, to connect with a rising football that has just been soloed, it does mean the margin for success is so small, that it's just not worth trying.

If they don't ban the fisted point we will never find out. Removing an option for scoring and rewarding attacking play seems counter productive to one of the purposes of the enhanced rules to make the game more attacking and reward getting the ball in quickly through the kick pass. Hit it in corner forward gets bottled up can't consider the fisted point, recycles. It is not a rule to encourage scoring innovaiton or more entertaining games.
