I think so.  The same guy whose partner and father were charged with assisting him.  Seemed a very lenient sentence.  Also took over 6 years to get to sentencing.  Is that timing normal?
That's just, like your opinion man.

I heard on the Bel Tel podcast that 50% auto remission was a thing when the offenses were committed, therefore it was applied by the judge.
It begs a few Qs, eg.  should exSir Jeff not be fully judged under the current rules?  seeing as the Judge is not going to go back in time to see what the appropriate sentences were when the offenses were committed.

Well firstly that would breach Article 7 of the ECHR. Secondly what he is actually has to do is looking at the sentencing regimes in place at the time through to today and sentence within the framework of whichever one was most favourable to the defendant providing same would not be completely out of step with current public policy.

It's a very tricky exercise to sentence in historic sex offending cases.

When released he isn't on licence? Is that correct?

6 years whilst not unheard of is at the higher end of normal. That said I had a 6.5 year old case today that's still not ready.

As for the sentence it's actually very stiff for what the defendant was convicted of. How he ended up getting careless and not dangerous I don't know but the sentence on a death by dangerous would have been much higher.

That's correct licences were only introduced under the Criminal Justice NI Order 2008. They only applied to offences committed after the commencement of that order which from memory was April 2009.

Remission should only be given if they admit their guilt, beg for forgiveness. If not do the full time
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

Well it's a hangover from the troubles but also with the amount of miscarriages of justice that occur you may be further punishing the innocent if you impose those prerequisites.

Apologies I have now read the sentencing remarks there will be an element of licence but its not the licencing regime we have today.  It is a licence element element under the 1996 Order but it will only apply to the offending after the commencement of that Order which I think only applies to the 4 year consecutive sentence

I assume wee Jeff will not be in with the general prison population and that he will be off on a wing on his own getting his meals & papers carried to him at our expense.

In with the medically vulnerable I think the news described it as yesterday - Moyola ward.

I think someone will want to make a name for themselves in Maghaberry, could see trouble ahead for Jeffrey.

He's currently being housed in the wing where people who with health issues are housed. Given his crimes and background he is a target for a lot of people in jail,  ex politician,  ex UDR man,  nonce who abused kids,  these types are at the very bottom of the food chain. Will be interesting where he ends up as they may transfer him to another jail ultimately outside of the north

You could see him not making it. His life will never recover from this in or out of there. I wouldn't imagine he's mentally in a good place.

If he got out where would he live for example. Imagine looking out your window and that was your new neighbour...
