okay, it's the Inniskeen nr 1&2. what do you think of the appointment?

Was Brannigan ousted, thinking Banty was getting the gig?

Now he's not. Always thought money talked?

"there were dark arts at play"

"Everyone is wondering what I meant by movement of the goalposts," he said. "I tried to capture everything in my statement, honestly and diplomatically. I sat down with the county board about six weeks ago and they were unanimous in terms of me staying on for a third year.
"I said to them about certain changes I wanted to make to the backroom team and they gave their full support to basically go on and do it. Which I did. I spent five or six weeks doing that.
"I went back to them last week and sat down to go through where I was at and what my proposal was. And it was very clear to me that it was a different room now. It was very clear to me that the support that was there five or six weeks ago wasn't there now. That's what I mean by moving of the goalposts.

When I hear of dark arts at play in Monaghan GAA politics   somehow Banty comes to mind.

Quote from: Main Street on October 10, 2026, 09:29:54 PMBanty thwarted at the pass. I thought he was going to ace it with his dream team plus the 'sponsorship'. It could be a factor that the County Board with their empty biscuit tin don't want to face the hassle of dealing with Banty's demands for higher standards of preparation.  Good luck to the McEntees and some hope that the lazarus factor is still hanging around the squad for when needed.

I'd heard that they didn't want Rory Gallagher in Bantys backroom team but he insisted that he had to be and then it went pear shaped.

Happy enough I suppose all things considered, of the names that were closely linked I'd certainly prefer this over the Banty/Gallagher ticket. John did well with Clontibret winning the championship in 2019 - but if you were nitpicking a bit you could say he was over Inniskeen a while and they could never get over that Scotstown hurdle. I felt they had a team good enough to win a championship in recent years if they could win that one game, they had a few tight contests but never seemed to have it upstairs to actually get the job done against Scotstown.

But again that's probably me being very harsh, Scotstown have had a very strong team for a while now. The other way of looking at it is McEntee getting the most out of Inniskeen and developed a number of their players into intercounty standard (also wonder if he could entice Sean Jones back into the fold now, among others in the county who had stepped away). In terms of the overall backroom team, there is a lack of intercounty coaching experience but that doesn't necessarily mean it won't work. McEntee and Kernan obviously know each other very well. McNamee I wasn't really aware was coaching but by all accounts he's doing well with Castleknock, and Hughes has some experience over the u20s and brings a local voice which I think is important too

I've seen mixed responses after this report and I can see why to some extent, but I also think it has the potential to be an exciting ticket. Certainly I'd be looking forward to watching the team more than if it was a Rory Gallagher trained side. If we can get everyone back fit and available, and McEntee can get some lads back who previously opted out, there's a quality squad there imo and it'll be interesting what he can do with it

I'd agree with that. The new management team are going from a club scene to a full time pro set up but yet it looks to be a daring progressive appointment. I guess you are referring to Sean Jones and maybe McNulty as players who might return? There's not much transition to be done with the squad, just get the team playing the Monaghan way and better.

Goals_Will_Come

Was Rory Gallagher a possibility for the role? Does he still train the club team in Monaghan?

Aye definitely those 2 which I'd imagine McEntee will be talking to straight away. But there's been some others around the panel in recent years who didn't hang around after not getting a look in - eg likes of McBennett, McPhillips, Loughran etc. Now maybe the reason they walked is they weren't starting and that probably wouldn't change(or maybe there's other reasons I'm not aware of and they're just done), but some of those boys would help strengthen the squad if they were open and available. The way these intercounty seasons go now, you need a deep squad. There's also the likes of Mohan who would be a good option if he was always available and any issues ironed out. (As an aside, we've long suffered with a lack of big men around the middle who can win ball - and that's as important in the current rules as it's been for a long time, and we badly suffered there against Louth - but I think we've actually got a good number of players in that mould now if all are fit and available. We were just without almost all of them in the quarter final this year.)

In fairness to Vinny and Bannigan, there's been a big injection of good young players over the past few seasons and I think McEntee could reap the rewards of that. It's probably overlooked a bit how many good young players are coming through in the county. You've the likes of McCaul, Kelly and Hamill who have had shocking luck with injuries the past couple years - but if they can put that behind them in 2027, those lads will be big options going forward along with the rest currently there

Sheikh Banty of Corduff has hired Gallagher to coach various Corduff teams since years, (once a week?). The rumored payment figures are so astronomical (imo) as to be in the unbelievable Father Ted category, but I'm not au fait with the current coaching fees. The Corduff Sheikh also signed up Donegals' Mark McHugh as coach and Jason McGee.
