As said here earlier the DUP have got their siege mentality vote back from this and it's a perfect distraction from the Robinson disgrace.

Meanwhile the rest of the world (we just probably Ireland and the UK) looks and shrugs its shoulders at the stupidity of the situation.

She tried, kept quiet when the DUP were at their work in various departments but there was no reciprocation whatsoever from Unionism and with this she very much needed to stand strong with the people on the Garvaghy Road and show the SF voting base that they were no longer patsies.

Stay in Stormont and go after Givan and Co for every single move they make that isn't justifiable by their own policies and procedures.

If MON said she went to  a GAA match , unionists would say  similar . You'll never win against that  bigoted lot

The nationalist leaders HAD  to be there. Yes , it'll probably help them in the polls , but  it wouldn't be as easy  for the RUC to baton the  heads off elected politicians  than it would for nameless Garvaghy residents

Thinking it over now , this was a unionist plan to  win back votes , not only to win Stormont seats , but to fend off  a border poll. They know it's coming even if they keep  saying it's not. FFS sure they  mention it more than SF/SDLP do

100% correct. In all honestly the notion that the actions of the Garvaghy Road residents have put a United Ireland back by x number of years are laughable.
Those loyalists/unionists supporting the bowler hats wont ever be voting for a UI.
Those commentators in the south spouting similar nonsense are the same partitionists we've all known about for years.

100%. Any other course of action from any nationalist party would have been wrong.

What happens now? Blackheart seems to be threatening to get her buddies that were in Scarva out.

I'd never have voted for SF again if they hadn't stood with residents yesterday and I'm sure plenty would be the same
100%

By 1000%. Plus all nationalist party leaders. Stood up for that community when required.

Anybody on here really give one toss about what the DUP/TUV say? Not me.

I know it's Twitter, but there's some clowns from the 26 counties qho are absolutely cluelass on the history of Drumcree. Some lad Eoin O'Malley - what an embarrassment. A lot in the 26 next a history lesson around Drumcree.

I saw quite a few unionists on also stating there was no need to re-visit Drumcree. They understood the majority of society have moved on. Fair play to them.

I think what has helped also is the time of year - if in July there'd had been hordes of nazis on the top of thst hill.

Ultimately the senior cops have a lot to answer for in terms of what they told the PC. Who was behind that information and why? Definately something wrong there especially when they sent for 200 cops from Scotland.

One of the strangest things yesterday was the interview with the younger orangeman at the church. A PR embarrassment of the highest degree for the OO.

Equally, that can't be allowed to obfuscate the fact that PC decided circumstances were substantially different enough from July, or any of the last 28 years, to give the go ahead for the march in the first place.

Each decision is independent of the others and completely on its own, yes, but looking at 99.99% of the same facts and arriving at a different conclusion suggests something was up. Did they just bow to the relentless political and quasi political pressure from one side of the community?

Correct.

The blame for all this is the DUP and Bryson. Trying to re-live past parades etc. Time has moved on.

It's all a distraction from Donaldson's situation. Deflection.

I agree with JC. SF need to go after the DUP in terms of scrutinizing everything they do. This has given SF, I think, the boost they needed. In fairness to O'Neill, for all the faults, she has tried to offer the hand of friendship but got f%&k all back.

I think the week-end changes that.

Very good point gallsman. That could be from the initial decision and then one of them stepped down.

Was the pressure there because of that?

imtommygunn

Someone needs to pressure Lockhart on what she is suggesting when she says "profound" consequences. Is that a threat? Who is she threatening on behalf of?

The orange order complaining about a lack of policing plan. They had two days. Also what they probably mean is why weren't the dirty Fenians beat off the road.

Spot on. Continue to reach out to the reasonable unionist, but time to go after the DUP morons on everything. While those pricks have been trying to walk down a road they aren't wanted on, a hugely important protest has been happening at Stormont regarding Lough Neagh- basically our drinking water is fecked! Lets focus on that rather than digging up old issues that were settled years ago.

It's 100% a threat and I think she's hinting at disorder. Bryson was just on the radio. Jesus he's a horrible p***k. BBC platforming him is one thing but not calling out his ignorant behaviour during the interview with Delores Kelly is unacceptable.

The Lodge have called for senior police resignations.

gallsman

I think everyone is giving Bryson, Lockhart and Allister too much credit by suggesting that this is part of some grand masterplan to shore up votes after the Donaldson disgrace. It's about a chance to stick it to the taigs, nothing more. Show everyone they still call the shots. "We won't be replaced" etc. Any of their voters who were rightly sickened enough to consider binning them off next time won't be persuaded back by all of this.

Bryson works with whoever he can, whenever he can to make as much noise as possible and get himself in the spotlight. He has little interest in anything else and will gladly turn on the DUP the next time it's convenient for him.

Lockhart is forging her own hard-line, far right path. She's essentially guaranteed her independence from formal DUP leadership the way a lot of their other MPs have done for years over the last year or so. For her this is about ambition.

Allister just hates all Fenians

imtommygunn

It's the residents should be calling out the cops for resignations. They can't not beat race rioters and flag protestors of the road and start doing it now. What do the orange order expect.

Agreed on all of that gallsman. This whole thing is just bigotry and the DUP probably doing a bit of opportunism now.

Bryson is in it for himself. His alliance here will blow up at some point. How this guy gets such a platform and s beyond me.

This idea needs to be resisted and beaten back publicly and loudly by nationalist politicians.

The bastards are trying to come out and demand that the role of the cops be to enforce every legal decision, regardless of consequences. That they go in all guns blazing so to speak. Of course, it only matters to them when there's a ruling in their favour. When it comes to bonfires, flags etc, they've no interest in the rule of law or having the police enforce it whatsoever.

There is obviously going to be anger on both sides at the PSNI for differing reasons, but the fact they didn't try to force the march through and batter the residents and protestors off the street was clearly the "right" decision. At least we've progressed that much in 30 years.
