Ominous that Brysnt has cut the legs of the commission, effectively repeating the unionist talking points and giving them till Friday to justify their existence.

Leaving aside that cabinet level politcians criticising statutory bodies isn't ideal, this is his first major contribution and it is extremely partisan

Speak for yourself, I don't think like that at all. Unionism is a broad church and most people I've met from a traditionally Protestant/Unionist background are sound.

Not everyone from the other side goes to watch band parades or is a member of the OO, and even the ones that do aren't necessarily that into it. I dare say there are even a good few de facto Unionists in the GAA.

I know it's cliche but a lot of the younger ones aren't as entrenched in the tribalism, especially when they get their eyes opened after spending 3/4 years studying over in Britain (if they come back).

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on August 26, 2026, 04:15:24 PMThe question I'm really asking is, are we inclusive? Or are we just fed up with the 100 plus years of being treated like second class citizens and its time to turn the screw..
Who's we? I think the Fleadh was a good example of inclusivity, but then it wasn't or isn't "ours", it's everyone's. But it was Belfast at its best. When's the last time the city had a buzz like that? Do the Loyalists not get marching in Derry? In Newry? In Armagh? In Lurgan? In Keady? In Pomeroy? In Omagh? In Magherafelt? In Maghera? In Ballycastle?

Is the GAA inclusive? Absolutely, but hardline sections within Unionism f**king despise us and our games and everything about them no matter what the GAA does; it's the IRA at play and whatever else. f**k them, they're a minority anyway and I don't care about including them.

I think there's no getting away from the fact that GAA is massively popular in the north, when I was young you wouldn't dare step outside wearing GAA gear whereas now you can't go anywhere without seeing kids wearing their county or club colours. I think certain elements are struggling with that manifestation in day to day life in the north.

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on August 26, 2026, 04:15:24 PMThis isn't a surprise but I can't see a united Ireland in my life time, and if we do and it comes with a reversal conflict to the one that happened before, it'll not be worth one death
We won't see a repeat. Loyalists won't have the state on their side. Loyalist paramilitaries haven't the capacity or capability to mobilise en masse like Drumcree, Anglo Irish Agreement, UWC strike.

Loyalism is confined to a handful of online propagandists spouting the same shite ad nauseam; I don't need to name them but they're on social media and all they can think about when they wake up every morning is Sinn Féin and the IRA. Their leaders aren't much better, in fact they're just saying out loud what their leaders can't. It's the blind leading the blind, a United Ireland is coming down the line at some stage and if you're lucky you'll still be alive and kicking when it happens.

got to agree. I know a few who are studying the Irish language. A couple of them recently got their silver fainnes. One on work and another who actually done it with me. There are plenty of , I dont want to say decent but you know what I mean people from unionist backgrounds. Sadly its the bigots who are very much to the front and centre
Yeah Id agree with that also, you just need to look at the way the flag protest fizzled out.

I don't think he's asked them to justify their existence at all. Rather I imagine he wants to appear to be doing something after loyalism was left a clear open goal by procedural failings within the commission.

He can't simply ignore it, or the gammon will simply shout louder and louder. From a UK Government perspective I imagine they're absolutely raging at getting dragged into things.

I do find it amusing that while demanding anyone with a taigy sounding name resigns from the commission, and thus hamstring it completely, the OO have stated that they still plan to apply to it for permission to march.

It may sound like hyperbole, but any kind of march down the Garvaghy Road being allowed to happen nearly 30 years later could massively derail the entire peace process. Any sort of trust or confidence in Stormont or Westminster from the nationalist community will hugely evaporate. It would be a sickening betrayal and dissidents will capitalise on it.It cannot and will not happen.

I don't think it's hyprebole at all. This is horrendous.

I agree. Although I would think (hope) that nothing comes of it and that the next application will be handled properly before being rejected.

Surely common sense will see through and no parade is allowed.

Good old Seamus Bryson has just tweeted Carla Loveheart's mobile number. Please respect Carla's privacy and do not share her mobile number which is +44 7833 198008

I would think that. If that were to happen it would also lead to issues though. It is a can of worms that has now been opened.

One way or another, the f**kers will have their biggest march up to the police barricade in a long time. There will be, shall we say, agitators amongst them. Lockhart, Bryson etc will be platformed with megaphones. Massive potential flashpoint.

imtommygunn

Yep. It's a bad bad job. It used to be Bryson then it was Bryson Allister and now it's Bryson Allister Lockhart. Horrible bigots stirring all of this.

ClubScene13

Lockhart is something. I've had Bryson blocked on all the socials this years as I don't want to read his scutter but seems to be no avoiding Lockhart no matter what you do - she is a disgusting excuse of a politician and everything that's wrong with this place. You'd love to ignore all the grand standing and huffing and blowing they're doing about this but I have to say this has wound me up a right bit.

seafoid

There are no decent politicians in the DUP.

She's vile. I first noticed her come to attention with bloody sunday and soldier F who she was flying over here the day after that trial for a commemoration. Completely throwing everything in the face of families with innocent people murdered with no regard just to display her bigotry and up her vote.

This has depressed me as much as wound me up. The likes of Byrant and Burnham probably don't realise what basket cases these ones are. They'll know soon enough.

Absolutely. There has been no  trouble for nearly 30 years around the Drumcree issue. Now   unionists think they're on the verge of  being allowed down the Garvaghy Road. If  that application is   turned down ,it  could certainly lead to a  lot of trouble. Indeed, you could see more of the shite we seen  in the mid 90's.

Who the f**k wants to go back  to that?

imtommygunn

Every year we have about eleven months of no bother at all and then marching season starts and everyone tiptoes round the place. Then they add this to it as well. Pathetic.

(Might I add for balance the shit round anti internment bonfires in Derry is growing some legs and isn't great but not this scale).
