Said the same in 2023. Then their luck ran out. Maybe the same will happen here

Quote from: Look-Up! on July 13, 2026, 09:13:34 AMThe ball looked over the line but the problem is not whether it was or wasn't, it's that the umpire was standing a yard away and wasn't even looking.

And square ball too. There's fecking two of them. Not hard to keep track. They've two basic jobs- watch for square ball and watch where ball crosses post/line. 7 officials in a game, granted the ref (and linesman) much more complex jobs. But 4 x umpires relatively simple job.

VAR in soccer came in because one linesman has to keep up with play and be in position of the line of players while also watching when ball is released. Not an easy job. If we need VAR in GAA to do the task of 2 x umpires because they're not up to it, then the issue is, a serious issue, with how we allocate officials in the game in the first place.

There is a very reasonable suggestion that umpires for top games be appointed for the game, either from retired referees who lack the mobility to run up and down the field, or younger refs who may be appointed as intercounty refs in the future, or one of both.

Cora Staunton also noted that the LGFA have a possibility of video review, although it is rarely used. In these days of integration it would be wise to find out about this.

One can only dream.

Kerry are clearly affected by the injuries to key men like White/Oshea. Struggling to get the form from last year but its enough so far.

If a scandalous umpire call hands Mayo Sam that would be a good outcome in some ways, to embarass the GAA if nothing else.

Still don't see why there's not more interest in the video review.

- Each team has 3 reviews
- a replay or two shown to the ref on big screen
- keep it reserved for QFs onwards when it is knockout football in Croke park

This alone would have allowed the ref a second chance to call the following with a lot more certainty:

- Louth red card
- Kerry wrongly awarded 45 v Tyrone
- Kerry penalty v Dublin
- Kerry clear square ball goal
- Dublin non award of goal

Each of these would have taken 30 seconds to review on big screen.

I think there's merit in it but any form of video review gets a lot of bad press.

No problem with video review but wouldn't have helped regarding the no goal. Only goal line technology or the umpire being awake would have solved that one.

But I suppose the threat of a review might put the skids under some of them and actually force them to be more proactive. A lot of them don't want the hassle of making contentious decisions and take the easy way out, but if there was the threat of a review, they'd have to make hard calls or risk being showed up.

How would non award of Dublin goal have been changed? As has been said many times, the replays DO NOT show the ball crossing the line.

Do we want referees to look at a replay and go "ah yeah, sure this is probably what happened, I'll change my mind"?

Would some of the Kerry lads ever take David Clifford aside (for his own sake) and talk to him about his juvenile histrionics every time he as much as kicks a ball? Maybe he should take a leaf from the book of the many other Kerry legends such as Gooch Cooper who could carry greatness with coolness and civility. They let their craft and skill do the talking.

Should he not celebrate? Especially after being booed for large parts of the game yesterday?

I get that, would need a dedicated goal line camera that I'm sure wouldn't be most challenging thing to overcome. It's not a perfect system but this year has had so many big calls gone wrong that is costing teams a fair shot.

Not a chance. Enjoy every bit of it, a player like him scoring and doing a fist pump to the crowd is worth more than a score. Love to see it

What system does the pansyball have in place? Realistically if it's wild expensive not worth it for the once in a blue moon theres controversy but if it's something that could added to hawk eye easily enough then why not

If there's simple technology that doesn't take over the game and lead to long reviews, why not. But Hawkeye was more needed for hurling more than anything else. For football if I had to choose one I'd much rather have competent umpires over Hawkeye.

Yerra sure he can come up to Mayo and go nuts for the next couple of weeks with the rest of us, he can pose on  the many beautiful beaches with AOS and head up to Ballina for a few pints and a Sam Maguire Credit Union Loan.
It might not be the best prep for an All Ireland final but sure he is only playing Mayo in a final and if nothing else, what it won't do for his performance, it will drive the Throne boys stone mad as he picks up yet another Celtic cross!!

Well it shouldn't need to be one or the other lol.

Definitely needs to be looked at having proper referees doing umpire
