It's not about the positioning of the attacker, it's about whether there was a flick on. When the ball is first played in, he's clearly onside.

From the angles I've seen, any touch is impossible to see with the naked eye and on TV (and I guess in VAR room as well) they used what I assume is Snickometer to determine there was a touch, and at that point he was offside.

Stayed up and suffering for it now. Well worth the suffering. Great game. For a limited player pool - the Croats are an incredible bunch of players.
Portugal would never have scored an equaliser with Ronaldo on - if they didn't get the soft penalty. Which in turn has eventually Gifted Ronaldo his first knockout goal in a WC.

Martinez had to bite the bullet coming into the home front and take 'The Precious One' off. Much to his obvious annoyance.

The drama at the end could have ended up very messy - but it seems technically solved the conundrum.

We get another week of the Ronaldo soap opera. Which is box office for the wrong reasons.

I have seen great footballers out stay their time at weak countries. Most came on with 15 minutes to go as impact subs. They still have something to offer because their player pool is small. I can't think of this happening before with a major power?

Ronaldo is such a petulant child, just saw highlights but hoping they were out on that image of him strutting off.

Based on visual the flight of ball is unimpeded and it could be a geometric false positive based on how the tech works. Blind faith in sensors is a bad idea.

By now I have little toleration for ITV or BBC commentary + most of their pundits, unfortunately there's no safe haven in RTE, apart from when Darragh is on commentary and Didi is in amongst the studio dross. The rest are  the B & C team, even for LOI games that lot are unlistenable. I happened across a Canadian TSN stream for Egypt v Aus and lo and behold normalcy returns with  Martin Tyler (he lives!) and old sidekick Andy Townsend. I checked out the TSN commentators' schedule and came across comments, apparantly Martin is regarded as too boring for those Canadian soccer aficionados who infect social media, give me boring Martin anyday.
