I can see why the umpire got it wrong, it looked initially it hit defenders toe, got it wrong, thought the ref was going to have a sneaky look at the big screen on that one, the mark mistake could be as David described was a free given then impeded, think I missed that one, what was the linesman one?

No he just made a mistake on the mark one, plain and simple. Its at the start of the clip on this tweet.

BAN THE FISTED POINT. One of the most unsatisfying anticlimactic moves in our game.

Clifford obv told to go for them...he used to just go for goal.

Did not get today but will be at HQ to see the biggest game of the year

Louth V Monaghan. Could be a real classic

Not sure what you're trying to say. Kerry won.

I'm saying they were easily the better team but struggled to get over the line.

Except for hammering them how many times since that 2021 game?

Once??

Kerry are easily the better team than Tyrone since (and including) 2021. There's something there that stops them from playing the way they can I think. Kerry were 10points better today yet there was a point in it before the goal last kick of the game!

You've had most of the summer and thats the best you can come up with!? 10 points better!? You're having a giraffe. :D

Kerry's willingness and ability to kick the ball is a joy to watch and it's what sets them apart from the other teams...........

100% agree. It missed the cut in the last round of changes.

2023 and 2025 no?

Anyway Tyrone were full value yesterday and if they'd been clinical or had a couple of decision go their way could very easily have won the game.

I don't think I can tell from that clip. There's another angle I saw last night that made it look like his arm started going out for a free kick just before the mark was taken but it was very hard to tell

Naturally unless like a goal scored from the hand it's from a volley.

Then there was definitely a mistake by the referee as there was absolutely no foul before the mark.

Quote from: David McKeown on June 27, 2026, 11:58:14 PMOn the Kerry one where the ball is moved did the ref signal the mark or did he signal a free kick for a push before the mark was made?  It looks and sounds like the hand goes up and the whistle goes just before the mark. If it was a free he was correct to move it otherwise he wasn't

O'Shea tries to solo and go, which would suggest a free.

Perspectives are interesting as I can't see anything other than an attempt to kick pass the ball to the free Kerry player just ahead of him.

I don't think it was a foul but something happens with Mark O'Shea and two of the Tyrone players. So I can't discount that the ref gave a free from something there.

So, in your opinion, the referee has either made a mistake by giving a free and then moving it forward..... or.....made a mistake by bringing a mark forward.

I am wondering how Dublin and Monaghan will cope with the three games in three weeks thing.

I definitely think it contributed to both games being closer on the scoreboard yesterday. I thought both Mayo and Kerry backs seemed just that second slow to close down shooting chances. I thought Kerry's defence also seemed to be slow to cover the switch ball across the arc with Tyrone catching them a couple of times with this to create scoring chances. Mayo really were super fortunate that Cork's players were so poor with the key stat from the Mayo Cork game being Cork 35 shots 16 scores and from play 29 shots 11 scored. A 37% conversion rate from play says it all about the Cork performance. The problem for Mayo going forward is that the chances of any other opposition missing 18 chances from play is pretty much close to zero.

Another thing from the Cork Mayo stats is that Cork only got 2 2 point scores (both from frees) compared to Cork scoring 6 against Donegal and Meath. That's an 8 points swing which is a massive difference on the scoreboard.

I think my issue is that I have a real problem when games turn and/or are decided on officials making mistakes on the rules which have seen both happen and nearly happen a number of times this year. If the referee gave a mark and moved it forward I have a real issue with that because it's unarguably wrong and something that should not happen. There's no interpretation to that it's simply wrong.

If on the other hand he gave the free (incorrectly in my opinion) but correctly moved it forward I am far less annoyed because ultimately the decision to award the free is open to interpretation and the ref gets one chance to look at it in real time from a different angle than I do. So my interpretation of whether it was correct or incorrect is largely irrelevant.

My issue is we don't know and probably won't ever because after the fact it's very easy to say that was moved because I blew for a foul.

I also don't think referees get enough help from a number of different underlying issues within the association but that's maybe a debate for a different topic.
