Murray was a big miss in Croke Park the first day out, Jack Flynn ran riot so that will need addressed too. I think it's a massive swing getting Meath out of Croke Park and into a tighter Celtic Park.

Wasn't a massive turnout for Derry vs Galway in the round robin last year but those who made the effort made plenty of racket

On that, does anyone know the size of each county pitch?

I keep hearing that this pitch, and that pitch is the exact same dimensions of Croke Park but are they?

Croke Park 'looks' a lot bigger than the most of them but anybody know the exact dimensions?

Owenbeg is the same dimensions as Croke Pk. The two fenced pitches out behind the main stand at Owenbeg , 1 pitch is the same dimensions as the stadium pitch and 1 is the same as Celtic Pk.

So you're saying that 2 pitches in Owenbeg are the size of Croke Park and the other one is the size of Celtic Park?

You could be right but I find that hard to believe.

Stadium Pitch - very close to croke park dimensions
Pitch closest to the stand - few metres narrower but similar length
Next pitch over - very close to celtic park dimension (these 2 pitches similar width, just one longer)

This is a really interesting game, glad it is one that made the cut for TV.

You have a Derry forward line that seems short on confidence vs a Meath team who have been very poor defensively so something has to give. Whoever comes through this one will be a tough draw in the next round as they will have got some momentum that they haven't really had this year to date.

I think this is a very good draw for Derry. Home venue is important.


But Derry couldn't get out of Div. 2, which really shows the level they are at. Beat by both Meath and Louth so this is a 50/50 game.

Louth we missed alot as usual and Louth are always strong here, on a tight pitch. Derry need show some intensity in this game or it meant they went further back from last yrs form.

100% agreed with this. I have been to all their games as well and the lack of intensity is disappointing. The shooting in the last game was the biggest issue

So I would also add getting the subs on earlier if shooters are not performing or passing the ball when goal chances are on.

The disappointing thing is that it wasn't just an issue in those two games. It has been a general trend for most of the year. It's a familiar pattern with Derry at this stage. I can stomach a defeat, but it's very hard to stomach one when the intensity and fight for the jersey isn't there. If we can recapture some of that, I think the other elements would start to click into place.
