Moreso between 94-96 when they were clearly behind in Leinster. From 97 on they were back in AI semis after DJ scored, I think, 2-08 in the first year of the original backdoor system against Galway in Thurles.

Then they should have won in both 98 (Whelehan's tour de force) and 99 (Timmy f**king McCarthy and his shit helmet).

Quote from: gallsman on May 24, 2026, 04:00:56 PMWith their current trajectories Dowling might figure he has a better shot of winning Leinster with Kildare.

He's in with Kieran's a lot and they've won three of the last four Crokes, so is clearly the man to rebuild from the bottom up.

KK public can be narky though. He never "made it" as a senior county hurler and hasn't the name that Lyng did. They'd be as likely to give it to Shefflin.

If Shefflin gets it, Brian Cody will have a heart attack.

He absolutely despises Shefflin for taking the Galway job.

Would they give it to Shefflin? His CV is pretty average. Did nothing with Galway, did nothing with this year's u20s, and the Shamrocks team that won... well, if they hadn't of, it'd have been a serious black mark.

KK will be down for a while. Tradition or no tradition.

Huw Lawlor was a big miss this year. With Carey having to go to No. 3, if robbed KK of a really solid half-back.  But Lawlor is one of the best full backs about.

Losing Billy Ryan wasn't ideal either. He brought a bit of energy and score threat to the half forward line.

Probably not see T.J. back now I'd say. Legend of a player. He carried them around the Covid years. One of the best players of all time.

KK just don't have the players. Teams don't fear them anymore. Dublin just pulled away easy enough. Never looked like losing. Ò Ceallacháin has done a great job with the Dubs. They now have the players to compete.

Last year was beating Limerick in a knock out game in mid-June and now, this year, a Leinster Final. That's progress.

Dublin now officially a dual county?

Laois is a dual county last won in 1915 - and never won in football...

Laois has been equally mediocre in both codes, that's why.

The darling of the Cork hurlers Hoggie is taking exception to Ben O'Connors comments that previous Cork teams had great forwards who didn't work hard enough.

Wonder who Ben is talking about.  ;D

Umpire was on his paddy power account  ;D

I think the umpire was caught out at how quick the Dub lad stepped up and just hit it, I noticed it at the time lol and was going to say his Ref will get a serious dressing down from H/Q's

Anyways, Dublin no great surprise winning at home against a poor enough Kilkenny team, they have the physicality and technique to compete, the mindset will be the next block to build.

Cork showed up very well also, this season I'm not sure who is the strongest but Cork and Limerick are pretty neck and neck in Munster.. Clare can't play that bad again and Cork looked to just put the hammer down take advantage of their purple patch and stretching it out

Ò Ceallacháin, since winning the club final and watching him that season in the games they played, the one thing stood out, pure calmness, he's probably going buck mad in his head and heart but there is no visual of that on the line, the composure is great to see and I like that approach, his timing this year has been good too, some games I was expecting more out of them but he's managed so far to be peaking at the right time.

Kilkenny looked rudderless, all individual play and no real team work and reverted back to type, them days are gone and the fielding of the top teams in defence is better than the attackers

God, Andy Comerford is turning out to be a real pain in the hole and not taking this drop in standards too well.

This lad was giving off about Huw Lawlor travelling for the year and going on about the beaches in Tramore  ;D

This same lad left Kilkenny to work in London and played for them, came back and got a run in midfield, but by no stretch was he a star on that team full of stars.

If he was playing in this era and on that team he'd be nothing special either.

Ah, I liked Andy swashbuckling style tbf!

The meltdown though is real, has the underage dropped off also?

Got to a few U20 Leinster finals and have been beaten by Galway this year and last.

They are still winning colleges stuff, but it's not transferring into adult hurling.

The gap is huge between colleges and senior
