Quote from: ck on May 06, 2026, 12:20:55 PMA horrible melt down by Derry. Complete panic on the pitch and on the line both in normal time and again in ET. There was absolutely no calm among the management, up roaring at one another, no-one in control. Naturally this spills on to the pitch.

As for RG and his social media inputs. For the life of me I cannot understand why he is doing this? Is it attention seeking, ego, desperation? I dunno.

What was the management on the line up to?

Go 3 up, bring on fresh legs and break the play up. Bring on another sub a min later etc....some of our men were absolutely spent. Easiest thing in the world though watching from the sidelines that's for sure

Meenagh is a shrewd operator , Sat goes down as just one of those days

Gallagher was saying in the video that it was a 'soft' decision to take Nial Loughin and Conor Doherty off, 2 lads that could barely run by the time they were took off and probably should've been took off earlier

Drinking game - Take a shot every time he says soft in that video. Airlocked.

Exactly. Meenagh is the man the players and Derry supporters wanted. It's all consuming, he has enough to be at. 1 championship result shouldn't define the man / management team's tenure. Plenty of football still to be played

Mans been watching too much of the Prem lolol

What should Meenagh even explain, long time players should know to hand toe the ball on a bad surface? Derry set up well and it was lost by the players decision making imo.

The substitutions were probably the only mark against him, if you had Higgins, Downey and Marty Bradley coming on then this wouldn't even be a conversation though

GTP

I just watched the last minute back again, it is even worse than I remember. It may be misleading as the TV clock and official clock aren't the same but 52 minutes in the clock is stopped (on TV) so that R Beggan can wander up the field and take a 2 point free, vital seconds lost if the ref did stop the clock.
Had also forgotten that Shane missed a 2 point effort right at the end of the first half from the 45, not simple but one that would have surely killed the game. It was a match where anything that did go wrong for Derry was punished to the maximum.
It is interesting how Derry lose, and the consensus seems to be they are finished yet Donegal lose to a Down team subsequently beat by a huge margin and it will do them the world of good.

Maybe I'm wrong but I just took his statement as why has no Derry management member came out and gave an interview after the game.

Just general questions about the game as no journalist is going to go in hard on a manager after a game - as they'll have to interview them next week and the next week etc.

So he only speaks to the media when we win? There is more talk here about Gallagher who hasn't managed the team for 3 years. Everyone in the stadium could see the momentum change in the second half but the sideline was found wanting. Mcguinness gave an interview after Donegal lost. I'm fully supportive of the team and for the moment the management but I think supporters deserve an explanation even if its only platitudes.

'Explanation' is doing the heavy lifting in that post

MidUlsterObserver

a wee interview about the game would have been nice but not essential. Sure most of those post match interviews are generic nonsense.

Elsewhere some senior players have time to promote brands/shops during championship season!

Our Hurlers done a Monaghan job on Meath. Two injury time goals to level it.

;D Tell me you didn't see the game without telling me you didn't see the game! The second goal put them one point ahead with 30 seconds of the +4 added remaining.. Meath then went up the park and got an equaliser. So Meath did a Monaghan

Means it's all to play for next week. Hopefully get a good crowd at Celtic park to cheer them on. Jonny McG is doing a great job with them.

Aye but they came back from a big deficit naw? Just like Monaghan did. A first holy communion and a wee girl in a white dress got in the way of me seeing it boss, forgive me.

Interstellar

If doing a 'Monaghan' is coming back from a huge deficit then what is a 'Derry'?

When one empties the tank but not the bench aka a 'Derry'
