Quote from: Captain Obvious on May 03, 2026, 05:56:36 PMA surprise to have such a comfortable win. Probably learnt from the Fermanagh game not to have a poor last 20 minutes. Better to win a semi final in extra time with the last kick or win by nearly 30 points?

A penny for the thoughts of Jim McGuinness and his players watching Down today.

No doubt happy enough to have avoided a serious hiding.

For some reason I doubt Armagh would beat Donegal by 28 points.

A week after a v intense game takes it out of any team, let alone huge underdogs.

Maloney on commentary said Armagh got 8 fisted pts. Must be a record

Shows the difference levels of the 2 teams. Down can shock Donegal on a one-off but not consistent at that level unfortunately.

Shows the gulf in league terms...in a championship season.

Aaron Boone

I really thought it was finally Down's year.

And if teams (like Down) refuse to press their kickouts, then they're absolutely entitled to do this.

A load of runners and a kick out plan worked to death in training. There's not a whole pile of skill to it.

Don't really like a slowish methodical build up myself but what's the alternative to having the kick out practiced well in training?  Not having a well practiced kick out?  I'm with the former option.

Very impressive from Armagh.  Stunning performance.  First time this year we've put in a performance for such a long spell in a match. The signs have been good in patches but we've gone to sleep for long stretches.

That's just, like your opinion man.

Div 3 team gets whalloped by Div 1 team. Normal service resumed.

Down are no better than they were when Laverty took over.

Mad how the narrative can change in a week.

You think any Armagh fan cares how they scored their points? If you practice at something at training and it pays off what's the issue? When the new rules came in and I had questions over some of them I was pretty much told to stop watching and find a new sport to watch, would it be harsh if I said the same thing here?

Did I miss a memo where fisted points are now somehow bad?

A point is a point is a point on the scoreboard.

It just facilitates a basketball style game. Personally I'd love to see them outlawed.

People can complain about the fisted point all they want but it's up to Down to stop them getting to those areas.

I wasn't able to watch the first half in fairness as our club minors were playing. The opposition scored a fisted point in the last 2 minutes to bring it level and my first thought wasn't "Ffs a fisted point get it out of the game there's no skill in it" it was "Ffs they actually worked that really well".

Got the kickout away short when pitch was soaking (keeper showed some balls to do that a point down), didn't panic and worked it up the field, nobody took more than 1 touch until they got in our 45m roughly then they had another 10 handpasses maybe, no touches, movement everywhere, backdoor cut a few steps out from the endline. What would you want the young lad to do? Take on a goal that would be nearly physically impossible? Shoot on his right foot at a narrow angle? Cut back onto his left foot and get blocked down maybe?

Would genuinely like to hear

Personally I think introducing a shot clock and a scoring arc already did that

It already is.
