It is likely to be a close game I feel.
Whilst Derry were never in any trouble against Antrim, there were plenty of mistakes and things to work on. A bit open at the back at times and our shooting wasn't amazing.
Monaghan have come through a tougher game and will have another couple of weeks to get their injured players back so will likely have improved further.

I'd like to think us at full strength and performing at our best we win comfortably, but if we can improve on the game at the weekend and win by a point or 2 I'd be happy enough.

Murray had some game - hope he can keep that form going and stay injury free. Closest we've had to our full panel being available in 2-3 years now. Lynch probably the only missing first 15 player now.
Any word on how he's progressing?
hope yous are stuffed out the gate you muppets

Yesterdays result should be huge inspiration to our lads. Sitting nicely that no one is talking about our side of the draw if we get over monaghan we would be placed lovely in the long grass

Hmm not sure, hell of a lot of punditry floating about where this week is Derrys to lose and we'll be too much for Monaghan.
Thats a dangerous narrative, Monaghan will be lapping up as yesterday showed. They are a Div 1 team and ultimately we are Div 2 so not sure its warranted.

Also Paddy Power now has us favourites for Ulster which is another tag that we don't need.

Delighted for Down but, exact same ambush that we got from Donegal after winning the league, the thing about Jims ultra committed style of management is that when the bubble bursts it can fall apart so fast.Hopefully that will happen to them this time.

Monaghan will be no pushover, and anyone going into the game this weekend thinking this is Derry's to lose is deluded. We need a good competitive game, and if we can come out on the right side of that and get to an Ulster final, it'll have been a good weekend.

Think most of the noise coming from outside the County tbf. Hope so anyway

I can't imagine anyone in Derry circles will be complacent - Meath and Louth this year show we need to play at our best to win. I find the bookies odds a bit strange but hopefully the old adage that the bookies are always right proves true.

tbrick18

The closer we get to this game, the more nervous I get. I don't like this mood music around Derry being favourites in Ulster. Seems unfounded given we've won only 1 championship game in about 2 years - against Antrim.
Feet need to be on the ground and I'm sure Meenagh will be saying the same thing, but all this talk of bookies etc will reach the players.
We need a Down-esque performance to be sure of the win, anything less and Monaghan will punish us. On paper, us at full strength playing Monaghan at full strength would be a coin toss, but if we take the context of Monaghan's league into consideration, Derry should be winning this game. But we should have been winning against Louth and Meath too.
We're still a bit fragile, but if we can switch it on and play confidently I think we can win it.

Any word on injuries? Big Dan Higgins available again or still out?

imtommygunn

Why do you think you should have been winning against Louth and Meath?

I don't think it will take a down performance but it will need a decent performance.
