Jim hasn't figured out the Paudie Clifford equation, I have no doubt if he was playing Jim would had Roarty, McHugh etc ready to go but some of them will probably miss the game

Seems straightforward enough to me. Put someone fit, fast and strong enough to physically bully him (eg Roarty) Tyrone did it back in 2021 with (McGeary or Myler I forget which) and he was kept quiet.

Ideally you could do the same with David but I don't think such a man has been born yet. :D

Jim won't be too worried either way about a league final, would expect both to go fairly strong but with an eye on meeting down the line in a semi final or final.

I would say Paudie Clifford is a significantly better player now than 5 years ago, players evolve, they adapt - the really good ones do.

You think manager haven't tried different approaches to nullify him ?

imtommygunn

Donegal didn't even mark the space he tens to run into so he probably has evolved and is a great player but Jim really let one slip there with not having a plan for him of some description. Even if it failed so it be it but there just didn't seem to be one.

Since when did a league final become something to be half arsed about? Would love Armagh to win a 2nd one if we were there.

Absolutely. But Donegal did absolutely nothing with him last year, he could have smoked a pipe with one hand and held the ball with the other.

Did Derry looking like world beaters in a brilliant game agains the Dubs in 24 devalue the league abit since both teams have been largely wofeul since? Maybe devalue isn't the right word but it shows theres no point being flying in March and nowhere to be seen come May/June/July.

I get that but if you are in the final you may as well go all out to win it.

Ah yeah definitely and I'd say Kerry will. Jimmy will probably pull some sort of cute hoorism though.

Quote from: bennydorano on March 26, 2026, 10:08:21 AMI really don't expect Donegal to go flat out on Sunday, Kerry have a different mentality, they will undoubtedly go for the jugular, but I just dont think it's in Jimmy's mental set up - they can never show the full hand for fear of being exposed.  They should take the opportunity to see where they're really at not indulge in shadow boxing balls, but I dont see them trying to test and expose their own limits & frailties. I think Kerry are pulling away from the pack tbh, Sunday will tell a tale.

Have you ever ran onto a pitch and only put in 75% Very difficult to do.

75% would have been a good day

I don't understand this statement. Expose what?

It'll make no difference - people overhype this 'don't want to show their hand' waffle.

If that's the case, lose 5 league games and get relegated.

I hear this all the time - just throw the game...as we don't want to show our hand.

Jimmy didn't show his full hand in the AI final either!

I don't really see what there is to be gained by trying to be too cute on Sunday. It's a national title (not a McKenna cup final), why not go for it and in the process give these Donegal players the inner belief they can beat Kerry in a game that matters (i'm not counting the league game).

That's just, like your opinion man.

100%, at the end of the day Donegal like most counties don't have too many All Irelands or national leagues. I'd be going for it if I was Jim. As a neutral, I'm hoping for a game of the quality of the 2024 league final. (As an Armagh man I'm hoping for similar summers for the 2 league finalists :D )

I would have thought a highly competitive and entertaining league final would show that the players and management wanted to win a national title rather than devalued it. And as a supporter I certainly enjoyed and celebrated Derry's win.
