Strange one this. 19 suspensions seems abit excessive- obviously no one deserves to feel intimidated at work but if you're going to work in a school with teenagers you can't afford to be too precious. Hard to comment on it without knowing the full detail

Here's a parent who doesn't understand how teenage boys act the bollox when in their own peer groups.

""I am disgusted to hear her terminology such as "masculine toxicity" with my son's name beside it. Anyone who knows my son, knows he is the most lovable, kind natured, humble young person with the utmost respect to all. Some of these boys have never even had a detention.""

When you put that in a statement....

Sounds like the gang of boys crossed the line. Some might be guilty via silence is compliance. There is probably a spectrum of guilt and everyone got the same punishment. That is either a life lesson or just unfair.

QuoteWhat about "yousuns"?

What about ' our blade'? (Surely blades don't  have a gender?)

Tyrone folk  seem to use that a lot.
Blade is female... totally. Have never heard blade refer to a male.

Quote from: Rawhide on January 15, 2026, 03:35:20 PMI haven't a problem calling someone by their chosen name, but a pronoun such as 'them' when it is a singular person in front of me, no way.

Why? What difference does it make to you? I don't understand the reason someone would choose pronouns for themselves but who am I to say they shouldn't just because I am content with how I'm addressed? And if using a different word makes life easier for them and makes sh1te all difference to me, why would I choose to not do that?

We all call people things they want us to call them.

Every single one of us knows a Paddy, Marty, Jim, Des and so on.

When did Ms instead of Miss or Mrs start?

When you are talking about them, say them, not he or she.

It takes more effort to be outraged.

A bit more detail here.

I can only imagine the whinging and threats from parents these days. For right or wrong, that school board needs to stand it's ground and tell those parents to suck it up or f**k off to another school.

And that's why it's beggars belief that this Burke fuckwit is indulged. He's a grandstanding bigot out for attention. Perhaps the press should stop giving it to him.

It doesn't outrage me at all but 'them' is not a person's name..
Them is a pronoun that refers to more than one person... how can one person be 'them'?
With it all I mean for practical reasons not that religious fundamentalism?
Teacher pointing at students: 'you-you-you and them, stand up!'

Hypothetically if someone drives into you and you don't know anything about them yet, you would be right in saying "they drove into me, the damage to my car was done by them".

That doesn't make any sense.

They/them is used instead of she/her or he/him, not you.

Right enough plural 'you' as well. All hypothetical.. I haven't met anyone who asked to be referred to as 'they' or 'them'.. so when it happens... 🤷
