Taylor wouldn't live with Littler would he?

square_ball

Van Veen on for a 9 dart finish and doesn't even win the leg.

Consistently? No. The odd match, absolutely. Taylor won his revenge final against Barney averaging north of 110.

A quick glance through his averages in PDC finals would suggest Taylor might win.

What separates Littler is that a) he's doing it in an era where there's 8-10 men averaging north of 100 every match and he's still better, and b) he's only a feckin child. It took Taylor quite a few years to reach these levels.

What can you say about that? He is an absolute mile in front of any other player on the planet. He will walk the next however many world championships until he gets fed up.

Dag Dog

Littler cruised it. Losing the first set woke him up the last two nights!

And he should have won that first set. Missed a few darts to win it that he would normally get with his eyes closed. 23-8 in legs.

I turned off at 4-1. Not a chance it was being turned around.

The only thing that will stop Littler dominating for years to come is his own desire to stay on top. One of the reasons Taylor was so relentless for so long was that the prize money, while obviously attractive was never of a nature that he'd be mega rich. The way he's going, Littler could quit at 25 and live in 5* luxury the rest of his life.

Like Taylor, he'll lose matches here and there, and some of them will be earlier rounds of major tournaments and some of them will be world championship finals, but he's the best in the world by a considerable margin.

Armagh18

How many titles did Taylor win?

You'd imagine he'll want to break the records.

gallsman

16, so just a mere 15 to go to beat the record. Doing that in 20-25 years would be an incredible return. Does he really want to do that do himself? Only time will tell.

At 25 !!
He's well into his millions now at 18, if he he can't live 5 star now there's not much much hope for us mere mortals.

Did you not learn your lesson with sport earlier in the day?

thewobbler

Been pondering about the now deceased BDO world championship.

I'm wondering if the reason why it managed to hold on for so long - despite being such an inferior product in terms of abilities and presentation - was because Phil Taylor dominated the PDO tournament for so long that it was refreshing to watch a darts tournament with an unpredictable outcome.

Certainly I remember seriously enjoying the McDanger and Burnett and Hankey tournaments.

Littler is presently the Steve Davis of Darts. He is so good he is going to be hated. That's sport!

For what is now a Major Televised tournament the presentation of the Trophy and trophy is poor.
Music was the Completely the wrong tempo. A Darts Championship should have it's own signature tune.
Presentation of trophy was cumbersome and sort of done twice.
Interview was ok.
Even the Trophy itself is awkward and cumbersome. It bares no resemblance to anything darts. There's nothing like a good old fashioned decorated silver cup.

Drama is as important to Sport as Skill. And Littler eradicates the Drama.
