Recent report now says death not accidental
A real strange one, a lot of stuff doesn't add up. It's also amazing how incompetent investigators can be sometimes.

Beggars belief. The boyfriend's family would appear to be scumbags

The big fire in Switzerland (over 40 dead) was caused by champagne sparklers close to a wooden roof. Insanity. This is a promo for the bar

You wouldn't expect the place to go up the way it did from sparklers though.

Just thinking of all the restaurants I've been in the Alps where we've been in the basement with fondue, raclette, pierreade etc, all this heat and flame.
Designed to be cosy, with low ceilings and often stuffed with crap on the walls. Just never questioned if I was sitting in a tinder box.

Did you see them? Plus dry wood.

Brings to mind the stardust fire where 48 died. I heard them saying on bbc 47 were thought to have died in this one. You wouldn't think it could happen in a country like Switzerland.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2026/01/01/serious-safety-questions-following-deadly-swiss-bar-fire/

The blaze likely triggered the release of combustible gases that ignited and caused what English-speaking firefighters call a flashover fire or backdraught.
Health and safety
One Swiss business cafe owner, who did not want to be named, said many businesspeople in the area "totally ignore" health and safety regulations.
The man, in his 40s, said: "It's mad. People do what they want. This tragedy should not happen in this day and age.
"I spend thousands on health and safety. Many people don't. They do what they want. They don't have warning signs for broken glass. They don't follow fire regulations.
Others also said there was little in the way of health and safety enforcement.
One bar manager said: "There's not many rules around here. We have fire extinguishers but there's never been a fire test as long as I can remember.
"It's not like it's taken seriously. Whatever has happened today is maybe going to change all of that. Something has gone seriously wrong.
"Many businesses just totally ignore whatever rules there are. But nobody checks. No councils visit."

I used to deal with entertainment licensing, when I worked in Building control in central London. The fire regulations are very strict. The point is that it is to avoid disasters like this. Basements should have twin protected staircases. Ceilings etc should be made of non-flammable material with a class 0 spread of flame

Protests in Iran possibly on the verge of tipping point.

Few boys here be absolutely devastated if the Ayatollah were to fall.
