Regardless if you like the clubs involved in this or not, this kind of childish drivel is uncalled for. I have no connection to either club and condemn the actions of the adults involved, but this is silly season stuff!

Any more word on call ups to the senior panel?

Kick it in high

What is the story with Gortin and Glennelly, will they join again for youth? It is clear that the split has done neither team any benifit. There seems to be a bit of an uproar in Gortin about the split, with this emphasised by losing to Urney in a final in a hammering. Surely it cant get much worse than that, especially with their seniors in the top division last season , largely due to their good youth structures provided by the imalgimation .They have taken a huge backwards step thats for sure.

They won the grade 4 championship and beat Urney en route to the final.

Speaking to a Glenelly person a few weeks back who said it was a terrible decision... grade 4 football is not where both clubs want to be
I hear talk of a few clubs considering amalgamation now

the Derrytresk/Derrylaughan venture appears to be going well, I see they were in an u16 g2 final recently, think that's a few finals in recent years

Aw well then that team will give them the push to get back into senior. Some achievement!

Glenelly have joined with Clann Na Gael at underage for 2026 anyway, not sure beyond that.

I was merely pushing back against the comment in bold.

A brilliant post was made on facebook last week regarding the gortin glenelly situation and how it has impacted both clubs. Gortin leadership in previous years has clearly made wrong decisions, with glenelly now amalgamated with the clann now i would imagine unless serious talks are had within the next few months they will again be split next year. It is easy to see that this amalgamation has made headways for both clubs in recent times with both having u20 county footballers in recent years. If ties are broken within both clubs i feel as though this will leave both clubs in a far worse position than they are currently in

From what i heard it was the previous committee that were for the amalgamation but there were certain people within the club that argued against it, ultimately leading the the majority of the previous committee stepping down. Looks to have turned out worse for the club and the people who argued against it are to blame.

Did newtown not test the waters with a few amalgamations before deciding to keep your club afloat?

I can understand the amalgamation thing, it would mean the players could play at a higher level which would be better for their development. However what about the actual grade 4 teams, if teams are amalgamating who are the grade 4 teams going to play? Only going to be about 5 teams in grade 4
