Quote from: HTownlad on October 28, 2025, 08:49:48 PMPlanning permission isn't really an issue within the city for lights that just a crude assumption.

Often we see that its restrictions in terms of time which negate the issue of light pollution

Milton would fail to get lights due to the potential bio issues
St John's don't have the space
Nor gort/st Paul's the likes
Paddies and Enda's would as would Musgrave
St Ts would be wouldn't be on their agenda and ofcourse LD

But the biggest issue is cost for proper functional match lights! Upwards of £150k

County won't look to support any club outside of St John's on this type of development

There is ofcourse
Falls park
QUB
UU
Woodlands
SallyGardens
Criky

All with lights but I'm assuming these were well booked in advance.

Buttom line is, it's another "we need casement" argument.

A few things you lads are forgetting.

Casement park if it ever gets developed will be owned and controlled by the Ulster Council.

Antrim may well be the sitting tenant in such a scenario but if Antrim want access they will need to apply and ultimately pay for the use of it.

Is that viable for an U18 B minor football game?

Secondly, any divvying up of the funds for the redevelopment of Casement will mean Antrim get a sixth (or a ninth) of the pot, not the whole lot.

Spike

we love a shortcut in antrim and casement redevelopment was always one

it has been so long i have nearly forgot the details but if Casement does get built, who will actually own or run it?

it sounds highly dubious it will solve antrim's problems with facilities if ulster run it as they will have different priorities and wont be letting it out for random minor matches.

In saying that i wouldn't trust Antrim GAA with the sole running of a large stadium. there appears to be large issues with many of the projects they turn their hand to.

are we down to the stage where the ringfenced money will only pay for a new stand? nothing else appears to be moving so if thats what we have then just go for it.  repair the concrete stands, fix the pitch and get the floodlights on.

the fact that we are using casement at all would be a huge poke in the eye to all the naysayers than them driving past it and laughing year on year at the state of it

Duine Inteacht Eile

The only people that scenario would really be a poke in the eye to is the current owners of Casement Park - Ulster GAA. I'm not sure who the naysayers you refer to are but anyone I can think of has been screaming at them to cut their cloth to suit and get on with it for years now.

bannside

Correct me where I am wrong.

The original £67m from NI govt was for an upgrade for Casement Park, larger than Windsor Pk and Ravenhill upgrade received.

Thats still ringfenced - for Casement Park redevelopment.

So worst case scenario, Ulster Council (lead partner on the project) take whole thing back to the drawing board and tidy up/rebuild Casement Pk for whatever you get for £67m.

Croke Park would probably make a contribution and with right representation you would expect Irish Govt to chip in too.

Maybe £80/£90M combined to go back to drawing board as WORST CASE scenario.

Yes/No....or does anybody actually know!

Duine Inteacht Eile

To my knowledge - £62.5m Stormont money, £15m GAA contribution & €50m Irish govt contribution is all still currently at the disposal of Ulster GAA to deliver a stadium at Casement Park.

There is plenty of money to deliver a quality stadium.

bannside

Thanks Duine. That would be my understanding and hope.

We could end up with something not too shabby for that, An Athletic Grounds or posdibly better??

Not in construction so open to correction from those who know more about these things...

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on October 28, 2025, 01:47:56 PMWhen it comes to the Ulster Club its a minefield.. History will say Dunloy haven't a chance and the odds would reflect that, though Dunloy have upset the odds all year, they were not favorites in their knockout games, so no change going into Saturday's game.

Newbridge have played one game in the Ulster championship but the Derry clubs have, at senior level, a decent history in this competition.

If Dunloy are fully fit, I see this as a 50/50 game, they have proved to be very good defensively against one of the higher scoring teams in Antrim these past 10 years.. If Newbridge don't have a plan for the Dunloy attack then Dunloy could rack up a score early doors, weather won't be a factor and Owenbeg has a good surface so the playing conditions will be grand for both..

Dunloy's biggest problem will be the depth of their squad, and that's not a reflection of the subs that come on, its just that they won't add  extra to the team when introduced, some clubs have an embarrassment of riches that can change the game when they come on..

Only seen Newbridge a couple of times so can't really comment on their game.. I'm sure some of the Derry/Antrim border clubs will have an idea..

Dunloy nothing to prove, they have huge big game players and the occasion will not faze them, having recently played a club final at Croke. Hoping for a Dunloy win and Moneyglass to throw the kitchen sink at the Glenullin and see what happens!

Spot on MR2, can't argue with any of that. Hopefully we bring a good challenge on Saturday evening.

But what has been wasted/spent so far on planning process and various appeals, legal, design fees etc .  All sunk costs.  I dread to think.

GTP

Looks like it is forecast to be windy Saturday can have a significant impact at Owenbeg. Dunloy looked good for 2 pointers in the Antrim final but they may only be an option during one half. If they can't run up a big score Newbridge will win.

Newbridge are 1/4 so huge favourites. So wouldn't be a surprise they win with those odds
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

GTP

I'd give Dunloy a better chance than the 7/2 odds. It will be tight enough Dungiven blitzed Newbridge in the first round could happen again with the Dunloy forwards.
Wouldn't be any debate if it was a hurling match.

imtommygunn

Derry football a lot stronger than Antrim so you would expect them to be strong favourites. Still Dunloy have serious pace so you never know but i would put it about the level of surprise the bookies would. They will either get tanked or win by one or two  ;D

Gnm won the minor b tonight.

johnnycool

Dunloy won't have the inferiority complex inbuilt into Antrim club football and won't be phased by the occasion as a lot of those names have played in an AI club final.

Defensive systems don't win hurling games, attacking does though.

The bookies giving Dunloy and moneyglass no chance

Dunloy opened up 5/1
Moneyglass 4/1
