As a villa supporter, I'd sell Martinez today. He is arguably the best keeper Villa have ever had, but it's time for him to move on.  If reports are to be believed, he has been talking with Utd since January.  His yapping at our final home game last year would seem to confirm this.

Look at the amount of players who entered this weekend with speculation hanging over their heads and yet they were pros and played well (Paqueta and Guehi for example).  Emi couldnt do that.  I'd say his bridges are burned.

Please God, no Sancho coming the other way.

I'd welcome a bit of shithousery  from the Argentine.
If United were serious they'd be buying him and that young lad from Antwerp as well. Martinez is exactly the sort of player they need. Don't know much about the young lad but even if hes talented he'll take time to settle and is bound to make the odd mistake which United don't have the luxury of allowing him.

Whilst Martinez is proven he will command a big salary and long contract given that it's likely to be his last big payday. That leaves a lot of wages tied up in 2 goalkeepers (Onana and Martinez). Should his form drop off or injury curtail his minutes it's a lot of money tied up in 2 dud keepers. The "spend big/buy names" hasn't really worked for UTD especially with regard to Ronaldo, Eriksen, Casemiro, Maguire and Onana. There's a lot to be said for looking round Europe or England for some value signings like they had with Dalot, Diallo or Mazrauri.
Ideally you'd get Martinez for 2 years and the young lad as an understudy, with Martinez going to Saudi or the US after that, but unlikely I know.

The US is a massive pay cut so I doubt he'll be going there in 2 years. Saudi money is unpredictable as we all know, maybe they'll be lucky.

Which young lad are you referring to?
Lammens his name is, plays for Antwerp and they're being linked with him all summer.

We need a proven keeper NOW. Not a potential keeper who could flop in the PL.
Martinez is proven so I would go for him all day long over the Belgian lad. Edwin Van Der Sar was in his 30s when we signed him.
Yeah absolutely. Never seen Lammens play but apparently he's a good player with plenty of potential. Be great to buy and loan him back as Martinez obviously isn't the long term answer. Either one is an upgrade on what they have

Van Der Sar moved to Utd at 34 and played for 6 seasons

Martinez is 32 and has had a stellar few years, you'd be hoping for more than 2 years

Schmeichel had plenty of understudies, all forgettable, thats the level of dominance you need in the number 1 jersey

Great signing if they get him over the line, worth 15 points compared to the other 2 clowns

I thought he was 35, my mistake. He's a class keeper but seems like the sort of boy who could end up falling out with everyone. He would be the difference in coming 10-12th or looking towards 6th-8th. Anything more than that is probably unlikely though with no midfield.

Newcastle, Spurs Villa all haven't started great though so who knows.

Jose, Ole and now Ten Haag all sacked in the last few days..

I think he's the kind of player you hate in the opposition but would love in your own team, leaving Villa the right way, left Arsenal with a bit of class too, not a trouble maker at all far as I can tell

Ten Hag sacked after just three games in charge. (1 win,1 draw,1 loss) makes you wonder why they appointed him in the first place?
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

Ten Haag gone  from Leverkusen after  3 games! Mad.

Rangnick better watch  out. He'll be next!

Ethan Tremblay

That's a bit insane that.  I would say a falling out with the owner or something has happened, as 3 games is nothing.
I tend to think of myself as a one man wolfpack...

Look-Up!

Has to be a falling out. In fairness the squad was gutted. Apparently the Xhaka moved to Sunderland particularly annoyed him.

A good and deserved win Saturday and all the better for having to dig it out. Felt United meant business from the off and kept the momentum going more or less throughout the game. This needs to be the minimum standard - not just when the b acks are to the wall. We'll see on that. The obvious problems reared their heads again with the two goals conceded - goalkeeping error (I make it 4 of the 5 goals conceded by United this season are goalkeeping errors) and Dalot's inability to understand basic defending (he very nearly caused another goal by dropping too deep - goal was disallowed because Burnley player was just offside by a whisker).

Talk about the penalty above kinda makes me laugh. Fairly clearcut. Some of the arguments against it would mean the first half one on Mount should have remained as a penalty. I can see why the Mount one was overturned but if it wasn't Walker could have no complaints....he was fortunate.

The goalkeeping led defensive crises and inability to save penalties have caused a shit storm but the stats tell you it has been a reasonable star to the league anyway. Highest xG, most touches in opponents box, most shots. Fernandes who everyone seems to hate/think is shit - highest number of chances created as has been the case for the last 3 full seasons (and he was second by 1 the previous season).

Looks like United will get at least one goalkeeper and Sancho and Antony out the door today which is essential. Talk of Onana going to Fenerbahce too which would be great. Honestly feel the central midfield issue is one Amorim is overthinking. I genuinely think the question is who to play alongside Mainoo. I don't think it is Bruno. I think if you feel you need legs and a defensive mindset in there (I'm not certain it's as bad as everyone thinks) Mazraoui could do a job though United need to keep Dalot off the pitch. He has his moments in attack but he's defensively clueless.

Lammens confirmed I see.

Serious pressure on the young lad. Needs to get plenty of support but no doubt the muppets will be out in force after the first mistake. Very highly rated seemingly but honestly don't know much about him. Got to be an upgrade on whats there though.

It's definitely a bigger risk than taking Emi Martinez who is proven in the Premier league.

Ten Hag,Ole and Mourinho all sacked in the last week at their respective clubs. Just 2 games into the season for Ten Hag.
