Hate this agenda that a junior club player can't play county. If he is good enough, he should be given his chance.

Plenty of men in junior at the minute who would show up some of the county lads...

I am not saying a junior club player cant play county but i know a county player is going to move from a potential still a senor club to junior.

Youth titles not the be all and end all. Ardboe and Cookstown are there or thereabouts every age group every year in Grade 1 and where does it get them.

Derrylaughan advertising for a Club Coaching & Development Officer... £27,000 a year if anyone interested in applying.

By what metric does a club decide its worth paying some guy 27k a year, if not titles?

GAA is allegedly a volunteer lead organisation.

GAA wants a good game thats marketable

Clubs pay money they take from local communities and volunteers to pay a professional coach.

Coach is expected to produce verified results, pressure to show results = underage trophies.

Unless they're doing a detailed skills audit every so often to demonstrate how individuals are progressing.

If the post for the job is to be believed they should be reviewing player progress as well as making job of volunteer coaches much easier also. I suppose reviewing player progress is one thing but demanding success is another.

Will certainly be a very tight line to try and walk.

I suppose some of our neighbours in Derry and in particular Slaughtneil might be able to tell us how its worked for them Chrissy McKaigue has been a full time games promotion officer there for a number of years.

Hearing today Kieran McGeary has plans to move to Kileeshil to live next year. Strong chance he will transfer to them too is the word, from a Pomeroy man's mouth

Ultan McKee Derrytresk another one with the potential

Ultan a great player, would start for any first division side, his brother diarmuid also. Both currently living in Dublin with good jobs. Travelling up and down for that shows passion they have in the hill. Diarmuid speech on socials very good.

Ultan was training with Ballyboden i think it was at the start of the year. Be a big loss nxt year,if he considers joining.

Are you sure McKaigue is still in that role?
Surely not as he has a full time post in St Pats Maghera, also coaching Ardboe minors plus now with Derry seniors......can't see how Slaughtneil would pay a man a salary and let him do all of the other roles as well.
Think he done it a few years ago but not so sure now.

Levels in football are dictated by time and space, basically those who can operate with less time and space are better equipped to perform at the highest level, in junior football you have considerably more time and space on the ball than you do in intermediate, and more again than in senior, whereas there are players who are capable of playing county football who are currently playing junior football, the truth is they are few and far between.
It definitely isn't an ideal preparation for county football, and it's not possible to say players who are playing well in junior football would perform at county level...as it's a completely different ball game.

Ruling out an entire batch of players because their club is poor seems odd.

Yeah you couldn't expect the man to travel all the way to pomeroy from killeshil 🙄. Why would a former player of year travel 10 mins to pomeroy when he could play junior club football at his doorstep with killeeshil next year.

No disrespect to those players in junior football but if you take into account the multiple players that standout in senior club football that don't even get near the Tyrone squad then how would you expect those in junior level to?
