Think he might be the last person to score four goals in a Derry championship match.
Would agree 100% with that, RIP Bun

From speaking to my brother who was at the game Paudie and CD were  back but Callum & Conleth McGrogan and Mark & Oisin Doherty  were amongst  our absentees

How are Eamonn Young and Patrick McMullan getting on? I seen they were playing. Would hope they push on to senior level with Derry fairly soon.

Patrick has been going rightly , (has been playing  in the half forward line the  games that I have been at )Eamon has been carrying an injury niggle and hasn't been playing too much but apparently was very impressive yesterday

NE when you see hear the amount of young men in around our age and younger who are gone, you wonder how we made it. I'm heading out here soon to another man's funeral around our age in Moneyglass here.
Bernard was a good lad from a great family.

Why are Drumsurn in senior championship? Have we not gone back to 16 Division 1 teams in senior? I have lost track.

16 team senior league 16 team senior championship, Drumsurn got promoted in the championship by reaching a semi final, as did Banagher despite both remaining in intermediate league

This is what the clubs have voted for over the course of the last few years. An influential few wanted the 16-12-9 structure for both league and championship and others fell into line.

I'm not sure it serves anybody except the handful of in senior who can continue living a lie at the bottom end too proud to go to IFC

The league is a different competition from the championship so there is no relationship at all. You could win D1 and still be in IFC.

In 2024 there were 12 teams in SFC and 14 in Div.1. Clubs then voted to increase both to 16.

So 2 teams had to go up to Div.1 - Faughanvale (1st in D2) and Castledawson (2nd in D2). Also 4 teams had to go up to SFC (the semi finalists Faughanvale, Drumsurn, Ballinderry and Banagher).

I think Castledawson were in Division 1 last season as well. Was it not Faughanvale and Glenullin that went up to Division 1?

With regards to the new Championship format there was a majority vote to go to 16 teams. I'm not sure who would have fallen into line???

Didn't know the IFC semi finalists got promoted, not sure that was a forward thinking idea.

What other options were there to going from 12 to 16, especially as league and championship were to be decoupled?

Wildweasel74

It should be 12 x 3 league, plus Junior B with whats left and 3rds teams. We haven't enough teams, with teams at the low end of the 1st division league kidding themselves. Kerry with 64 teams dont have our set up. The reserve league at senior seems to be a total disaster this Yr.
