Quote from: GTP on April 11, 2025, 01:40:56 PMIn the underage games and senior game I have seen everything seems to being taken account of when it is seen. Refs have moved ball forward for not handing it back and dissent and a 21m free for breaking the 3 up rule. Also seen free given for dissent from mentors on sideline. Referees would be better pushing the rules now if it became stricter at championship time they would get far more stick.
3 up looks very hard to manage, not sure if I was a ref I would say I was ignoring it, would rather say I can only call what I see.

I'd say it's in the referee's interest now, all of them, to fully implement the rules as it'll cut down on ildisclipline etc. as the season goes on I think.

Nip it in the bud now.

You are right WW it is a guessing game as to what is going on. I'm trying to settle on a guess, accepting the decision and no shouting at the ref.

Are players on the development squad let away for club fball? Is u20 outside the starting 26 allowed play club fball, as i seen few lads playing the other nite.

Anybody from No. 16 and No.'s 21 - 34 should be let off to play club football at week-end.

Be of more benefit to them than training.

Common sense but not adhered to at times.

Brendan

A young fella from my club was playing last weekend who is supposed to have broken onto the senior panel via this development squad

I'm not 100% sure but I think it's being worked on a player by player basis, if the management feel a player could be doing with some game time they are releasing them but I don't think it's a sweeping agreement.

Was that McAleer from Newbridge asked to join the county panel? See him the other nite, he looks a better bet of the bench that some of the forwards we using.

I don't believe he was called up to the panel (which surprised me to be honest)

He was but declined due to the fact it was around R5 or so. Callum left not long after that, M Doherty should also be back for newbridge these next weeks

Edit: Maybe it was before round 5 but it was around when injuries were creeping up and suppose he looked like an after thought

Got to remember Tally seen none of these players last yr. And obviously relying on others opinion on the initial panel. That lad McGrogan looked decent the other nite, lads got to remember first yr on the panel, it's getting up to speed with county fball. How do Armagh and Donegal keep a big panel but Derry has a big drop off if they not starting.Think James Gribbon was up as well at the start but didn't stay either. Before getting injured. I think with 2 Newbridge men starting, they try stick it out with the panel.

Two dropped out of the planel already. Declan Cassidy and Mark Doherty. Not good when it's a time to pull together as a squad.

This is worrying on top of lads leaving earlier in the season.

Support for the team has dropped dramatically the last 12 months after the highs of back to back ulsters but when the squad isnt united this will make things even more difficult all round!

Why?

Lack of game time?

jb77

I thought No.20-26 and extended panel were just being sent back to club during this break, no?

Wildweasel74

Who came off the bench in the Donegal game?
