McEldowney fit and starting would certainly boost the chances if both him and JS out I would make Tyrone favourites. Hope JS has a full and as quick a recovery as possible.

Christ lads what the f**k happened there?? Not sure McEldowney and Sargent would have made the difference!

Wildweasel74

It's not a stronger team than last years simple!

Jesus Christ can any Derry team play with a bit if excitement? Are these coaches in Owenbeg capable of  finding/training/improving a forward of any form. Systems systems and more defensive systems.

Interstellar

Had all the possession and made little use of it. Also conceding 3 goals (seems to be Derry trait) didn't help.

Ah disappointing second half performance by the 20's. Tyrone out fought us, out played us and tactical were better. Very disappointed. We have good players but didn't seem to get to the pitch of it. Maybe it was the easy nature of the earlier games and weren't battle tested.

I didnt get to see it, but sounds like the final last year.

We couldn't make down Tyrone's excellent defensive setup. Once they broke, the had oceans of space which they exploited.

Tyrone kicked the ball into their forwards at every opportunity. We tried to run it every time. Our management haven't evolved under the new rules unfortunately for that group of players.

Our forwards were to blame?????

We gave away three goals ffs, none of which were on a break from a turnover, allowing men to waltz through our defence at their leisure and pick their spot.

It's not the first time I have said this on here, but McErlean's teams have always been poorly set up to prevent goals and have relied on individual brilliance rather than building smart defensive systems. Against higher quality teams the former will get found out and this has been shown to happen again and again.

And speaking of our forwards, we were stymied by Tyrone because we continued to play the same way without any variation, which made us easy to defend against. Not only last night but in every game we have played this year [that I've seen] we have played exactly the same style of football, I cant recall a single example of us kicking a ball long to the forward line, this lack of variation made it much easier for Tyrone to set up to defend against us.

In a nut shell.

In other news, Derry Hurlers in fine form this season. Securing division 2A status for another season! Providing 5 great performances in a row (gaining 4 wins), leading perfectly into their battle against Meath tomorrow. Think the lads and management need more praise and support for their work, as they have shown a never say die attitude this season. Also after beating London last weekend (in which London had multiple youth county stars playing), Derry seem to have set themselves up nicely to be firm contenders for this years Christy Ring! Let's get out and support the lads tomorrow 🔴⚪️

Real Talk

I the first half on Derry's Kick out Tyrone conceded possession and kept a blanket defence to prevent Derry getting any goal chances and no 2 pointer opportunities

In the second half Derry could have changed their KO system but didn't ..... as has already been said poor game management.  But Fionn McEldowney was a big loss for his tenacity and effectiveness in the tackle and reading of the game and also James Sargent.  Their substitutions were 15mins too late.

That said Tyrone made better use of the Half-time break and dominated possession in the second half to run out winners

Your ploughing a lonely furrow but intentions are most certainly good.

But I'll struggle to take this Derry team serious while they continue to start Mc Naughton at full forward. Nothing personal against him but he shouldn't be in a Derry jersey. How little incentive does a young upcoming hurler get  who represents their club week in week out when he gets his place ahead of them. Should we not encourage our home grown youth?

I seen a few league games in recent weeks with big scores. McAleer of Newbridge is a fair player, think he was asked up to the Derry panel late in the league but turned it down. Not sure why he wasn't asked from the start.Sean Kearney (Swatragh) must scored 2:10 the nite, and looks a real good player. Think he hit 3 2pters. That lad ever asked to try out for Derry? Them 2 players look better than our forward subs of the bench
