Quote from: Wildweasel74 on March 23, 2025, 09:01:26 PMFunny u picked out McCarron, not that he was great. But  some of our senior are lucky the bench is so light as they wouldn't get starting, and are playing like they know there nobody to replace them. Glass the only player they have past 2 games. He's had a good league outside of the Dublin game. How do u go from a well oiled machine 2yrs ago to this. Irish Star said during the week Derry went into total meltdown. Goes to show the influence managers have on teams. Leaking goals like confetti. Even when Derry set up in defence, very few players are picking up any men. I thought we could go no lower than the Dublin game.was wrong, Tally totalled out of his depth. Derry county board gonna take most of the blame, especially the process and delays about appointing a manager.
Not funny at all, I agree with our more senior players not leading either but at least we know they are capable of playing at the level required.
Mc Evoy, CD (at times), Ethan, Paul Cass, Baker Shane are miles off what we know they can do.

I think Tohill has done a job and I thought done rightly today and seems to be improving so I would struggle with him another while, albeit I think we have no choice. Glass and Toner had good leagues but don't think Niall Toner is a CHF.

There is still the guts of a good team there when we get some guys back. No Clucky is a massive loss, he is irreplaceable and a fantastic man marker. But if we get a few back our Championship team looks decent.

I would think seriously of dropping Rogers to full back for the Donegal game. Teams are running through us at the minute. Maybe he can help shore things up. In the interests of solidity I would have McFaul in at centre back and McGrogan to his natural position.....

A backline of McKinless, Baker, McEvoy, Rogers, McGrogan, McFaul, Doherty. We are being blitzed at the minute game after game. Something has to change.

Would Bradley be ahead of baker? Think Rogers is better out the pitch but may have to try something. McKinless is massive miss and thought if he played well Derry played well

For me, Rogers to mf with mcfaul into chb and mcgrogan and doherty beside him.
Full back line of Baker, bradley and mcevoy.
CD could play mid field too and you could drop Rogers to chb, but we need the balance between defence and attack, Rogers is our best option to link both.

This thread is called Football and Hurling

Would be remiss of us not to mention the massive win from the hurlers this weekend. Serious progress throughout the league. Hopeful for the Christy Ring this year. Johnny McGarvey doing a great job imho

Any confirmation if Rogers & McFaul will be fit for 2 weeks time v Donegal?

Goalkeeper is a serious worry, McKinless isn't good enough for county level & it's been proven before, however he's the only goalkeeper on the panel at the minute. Baffled me last week some people on here were calling him a 'class' keeper.

Hard to know what way to structure the defence. Put Rogers to full back, play him chb, play him mf...it's a bad position to be, 2 weeks out from championship when you've no idea where key men are going to be playing. Paudi McGrogan was always going to take a bit of time to hit his best form also, it may not be this county season where he hit's those levels.

Our Defence is really struggling, man for man performances haven't been good enough and systematically we look easy to break down. Armaghs 6 forwards yesterday scored 3-14 from play (3-16 total) With the spread coming from everywhere -
D McMullan (1-01),   R Grugan (0-03, 1tp), CTurbitt (1-04, 1f),
S Campbell (0-04 ),  A Murnin (0-02),      R McQuillan (1-02).

Attack has been our worry the past few seasons, now it looks like both ends of the pitch is a problem. If we don't get key men back it'll be a short season. Too many of our key men are unavailable and the issue is Lynch, McKinless, McCluskey won't be back this season & that alone is probably enough to derail a season.

I would say at this stage its damage limitation vs Donegal.

think it will be close enough
Derry were well in thE game yesterday until the stupid sending odd which is a killer under the new rules
they missed a fair few scoreable chances in the first half

Just looking at the table. Relegated Derry had more in the 'points for' column than League leaders Mayo. And outside of Kerry they were within 8pts of every other team in the league in terms of scores.

Defensively we're 30-50pts off everyone else in the league. Conceding 5 goals against Kerry, 4 against Armagh and 3 against Dublin really didn't help that cause.

Plus I think that any Derry supporter in the Athletic Grounds yesterday should be given free entry to every championship this year ;)

They were def thin on the ground yesterday. Not 1 person i knew, would go up cause they were going to get hammered. That's of course because everybody thought we put out a full reserve team. Would been better if we did.

I'll take that, it was a lonely battle that Mc Guigan done nothing wrong and Armagh have gone soft

Sure I had to make my own enjoyment.

Derry won't be far away against Donegal, Alot of gloating and show boating from Armagh and as a fan nevermind a player that hurts. Campbell, Turbitt, Mc Cabe screaming for more goals, that stuff always comes back around.

You boys are a laugh majority say Tohill not up to it and as soon as he's injured it's a big deal.
