Quote from: trueblue1234 on March 24, 2025, 02:55:34 PMIf G&R getting a mention, I'm pushing for the Red Hot Chillie peppers.

Nick Cave said it best.

QuoteI'm forever near a stereo saying, 'What the f**k is this garbage?' And the answer is always the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

And recently walked it back and added some context.

Quote"About twenty-five years ago, I made an offhand and somewhat uncharitable remark about the Red Hot Chili Peppers," he wrote. "There was no malice intended; it was just the sort of obnoxious thing I would say back then to piss people off. I was a troublemaker, a shit-stirrer, feeling most at ease in the role of a societal irritant."

Added context? Yes.

Where did he walk it back?

gallsman

He apologises and acknowledges the comment as hurtful but he doesn't row back from the comment that they're a pile of shite   ;D

And even if he did, he'd still have been right about them the first time. With Californication they threatened to become a serious band for a while and then immediately descended back into the relentless mediocrity that had characterised the majority of their output up to that point.

What's good and bad is a subjective matter. For an artist like Nick Cave to come out and say another artist is more or less shít lacks real self awareness.

It says more about Cave than the Chilli peppers IMO.

Blowitupref

Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

My take is that his acknowledgement for why he said it demonstrates that it wasn't what he really believed - he was merely trying to stir shit up, and they were easy targets.

They've become somewhat of a parody in recent efforts, and Keidis has certainly lost the run of himself with the younglings he's involved with, not to mention some of the infantile lyrics of earlier years get harder to jive with as the world becomes more aware... But to say Californication is the only serious effort in the catalog is not accurate. BSSM, By The Way, & Stadium Arcadium all yielded a plethora of superb tracks. One Hot Minute is a diamond in the rough, particularly given the lack of critical acclaim at the time of release. Navarro was only there for one hot minute, but he left a mark with a super album. The fans just always wanted JF. Josh Klinghoffer can feel hard done by, but having seen him with Pearl Jam a number of times in the last 4 years - he has landed well and truly on his feet (when he's not running over pedestrians cause hes on his phone posting on the GAABOARD).

I have to agree with this.  I was quite disappointed by Stadium Arcadium when it was released but going back on it now, I feel I was a little harsh.  I'm With You could also be added to this list as I thought it was a real return to form.

Jees we've another good year on this yet 🤝😜

I'm worried . Nearly 24 hours later, and nobody  has objected to any of this.

Does this mean  I have to add them all to the  list?   :o

Take That and leave the rest..

There is room for a chat on bands producing new music (some may even be new bands!) , the alternative is a spiral downwards ending with us all putting Black Lace greatest hit on.
