McCluskey McGrogan Bradley
C Doherty McEvoy A/N Other
Glass Rogers
E Doherty McFaul P Cassidy
Murray McGuigan Loughlin

I think we need Mc Grogan at 7. Our half back line was very porous last night. Definitely Mc Evoy at 6. I'd like to see him try Bradley at full back.

Some experts on here, most of whom don't appear to have made it to the game last night, so your insight into where it is all going wrong is very interesting.

Wildweasel you are definitely the biggest expert of them all

Whats the problems with the odd comment about players that arent going well, the papers love to give a full rating every game come championship time and that can be a proper rinsing

Bit of a difference in an article being written in a paper and some fella who wouldn't know if she's pumped or stuffed going on to an anonymous forum and saying x player is useless. Always going to be a tough year when you're missing the 4 best defenders in the county but thought last night was the outlier of the 4 games, we could easily have won the first 3. Plenty of teams get a trimming from the Dubs in croker all about bouncing back and getting a couple of results under the belt going into championship

Real Talk

We also got a hiding from Dublin was it back in 2023(when RG was in charge) the day that C Glass was injured and we fell apart  .... in fairness we recovered and had some really good performances especially against the Dubs.

But it's now a new type of game and with lots of injuries we're struggling.  P Tally and ( his back room ...have they any ability or influence at all ?? )  has a big job in his hands and with Donegal, Mayo and Armagh coming down the track we have to get an improved team selection within very limited player options.

Don't think anyone said any player was useless, as for newspaper articles are they not just one persons opinion so whats the difference?

The problem only in arises when individuals take any comment as a personal attack, Nobody has any doubts that our Derry players off the pitch are honest decent lads but when you pay to attend matches up and down the country you are surely entitled to an opinion on what you see. If you can't have an opinion on it whats the point really.

I don't think I saw anyone say players were useless.
We have good players, who didn't perform last night.
A number of possible reasons, new rules, missing players, new manager, etc.
Personally, I think the single biggest issue is the gk, and that's not mcnicholl's fault. He's not a keeper. Simple.
With Lynch in goals we don't concede 3 last night and we have better kickouts.
There were no positives out the field from mcnicholl last night either, just too high a level for him.

The issue now is if Lynch does t get picked for the next game after last night's performance, what's his motivation to stay involved?

Brendan

McNicholl has been one of the stand out Intermedate players of the last couple of years that I've seen, and that's counting Murray and Loughlin. Makes me think there's a reason county managers don't bother looking outside of South Derry or Senior football as there has been calls for on here before, to add to the panel because the talent isn't there which is a shame

There's many a good lad lost after minor and U-20 from Div 2 /3 clubs. They not dropped on to a county feeder setup and a few yrs at the level below div 1, they drop off. They was a very good lad Donaghy played midfield U20 from Lissan a few years ago was a very good player. What's happened the McWilliam lads, seen them at mass this morning, they were 2 of the better lads on a U20 team few yrs bck. Don't remember seeing them play much for Swatragh last yr. I know the bigger lad Oisin had a serious shin injury.

That's about it. McFaul has missed a couple of games too and Lachlan Murray isn't fully fit. Cormac Murphy seems to be injured too. Our injuries are no worse than any other D1 team we just don't have the squad other teams do.

Don't think Donaghy plays for lissan at all now. Way it goes, could have lost McEvoy to the AFL we've already lost callum brown

Lads, we're not speaking here in a vacuum - players read this board. Given the last 2 all Ireland winners came from Div.2, we can conclude that league status has little impact on chances of an All Ireland win.. So relegation isn't the end of the world.

The reaction on here after negative results or lads having a bad game is simply ridiculous. We can all have an opinion, but when it comes to new players or new management, we really don't give them any time to settle.

I'm often struck by McKaigues speech in Clones in 2022 - embarrassingly, he had to tell the Derry public to stick with the team. I've never heard a captain say that, ever. I would be in no doubt he's talking about some of the head cases on here.

That was a hard watch last night lads. It doesn't look like a quick fix to me with a few issues that I can see.

1) The biggest issue is that Tally got the job late and no easy games in div 1. Whatever way you put it 3 different management teams in 3 years includes a change of tactics and personal. We were once praised as innovators and how in sync our play was. Last night we looked at best unsure of how best to attack and defend. Its early days for Tally and it's a tough gig, but we really need to sort a few things out tactically asap (eg lumping the kick out up the middle repeatedly is not good enough).

2) We are currently struggling with the new rules. We looked slow and laboured I think in part to thinking too much about what we are trying to do. Dublin were slick tbh as well and Croke park showed up our frailities.

3) Player pool. The same story of the last few years, where we don't have a strong enough panel to compete at the v highest level. Its difficult as we have tried out a few new players in the last year or so but we haven't found many who have stepped in and excelled. Im hoping the u20s coming through will help with this but that's a few years off.

4) Just on R Gallagher and someone posted about why he always gets brought up. It's very simple mate, whether you like him or not he won 2 Ulsters, Derry hadn't won it in 25 years and we were not in any way close before he came in. I agree it wasn't an overnight thing and it took him a few years but he had us within touching distance of an all Ireland before he had to go. Sadly I'm struggling to see a quick fix to get us back to that level.
