Quote from: Duine Inteacht Eile on February 14, 2025, 10:38:08 AMShowing the top of your socks is in the guidelines. I imagine that's the "roll up trouser legs" bit.

Anyway, I'd say you're overthinking again there, David.

I may have been. I interpreted the original post as rolling up legs to reveal more than just top of socks and lift up top to show body. It's the latter I'd find completely unacceptable. Strangely I discussed it this morning with some solicitor friends and they all felt it was wrong.

He said he had to pull the legs of his trousers up as far as they would go, so about half way up his calf.
His top up above belly button level, then turn around in a 360. He had a t-shirt on so his arms were already bare, but I'm guessing he'd have to pull up his sleeves too.

Far beyond their guidance. I wouldn't be happy with that others may disagree. Far less degrading options available.

They don't even do that at an airport where they are checking for bombs/guns.

They do put you through a metal detector though and pull people at random for body scans & pat down searches.
A gun is probably handier found than a post-it note tbf.

Could they not just sit in the room with you when you're doing it? Never had anything like this when I did it about 20 years ago.

Never heard of the Rachel Kiely case until today.

Madness how lightly her killer got off, especially considering the numerous crimes he committed. Concurrent sentencing really is pointless.

I think he's inside again for a hammer attack. Sounds like a lovely fella.

Aye, never saw as many violent offence carried out consistently. How did he not get murder in the first instance? Joke.

Can they not do a deal and send him to Dublin where there are nurses etc trained in this?

This is on another thread, but say the two lads were indeed Palestinians, would that have made the shooter alright?

Never, he was just throwing out a racially profiling (mistakenly) judgement to try and get himself off the hook.. Probably only get a few years probation though
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

Haven't seen anything on the main news yet but word going around about a nasty incident involving a fall/throw from a tower block in Seymour Hill.

imtommygunn

It was on the radio there. There weren't any specifics about it though.

The problem is proving the intent particularly for a youth.  It can be very difficult and rightly so given the consequences.  Thats not a comment on the specifics of this case just in general.

Is it not made more complicated than it should be? If you rape and strangle someone, then that has to be murder whether or not it was planned well in advance or not.

On the flip side, you could have someone convicted of the murder of Lyra Mckee when there is a strong argument that it was manslaughter as you would imagine she was not the target of the shooting.
