Murray, Morgan, McCartan and McAlinden I believe are in Louth. We also have J McCartan and  L Coulter in Monaghan (Clontibret), R McShane in Armagh (Shane O'Neills), R McMahon in Armagh (Clan Na Gael) but I believe Pete McGrath may have left Antrim (Aghnagallon).

This is the list of Down men in Louth (as far as I am aware - but the trend is more and more are heading that way):

Cathal Murray - Ardee
Steven Poacher - St Mochtas (apparently he's double jobbing)
John Kennedy - St Fechins
Eamon Morgan - Dundalk Young Irelanders
Kevin McKernan - Dundalk Gaels
Ronan McCartan - Dreadnots
Glenn Burden - Na Piarsaigh
Miceal Magill - Geraldines
Laurence McAlinden - Naomh Malachi

I believe a lot (maybe all of them) have a Down coach with them

That's all I know. Would be interesting to see in other counties i.e. Armagh, Antrim

In response to The Wobbler, lots of valid points. The only true answer you will get is if you ask one of the managers in question

Does anyone have the Armagh/Antrim/Monaghan/any other counties management list? The list above for Louth is correct according to my 2 sources. Would be very interesting to see the exact number of Down coaches out of the county in total. A genuine debate should be arising out of this.

Near sure that in Armagh last year there would have been more Tyrone men than Down men looking after teams. Vast majority would be Armagh managers. Around half of the clubs in the county would have had clubmen in charge by the time championship came around.

Ronan McMahon - Clan na Gael
Danny Hughes - Culloville (now Mayobridge)
Gareth Thornton - Pearse Ogs
Niall McAleenan - Killeavy (left mid season)

For 2025 - Ryan McShane - Shane O'Neills

I think I read on up that Cillian Laverty has went to Dorsey. I think Mickey McVeigh is at Thomas Davis? That would leave the following:

Justin Lynch - Clann Eireann (coach)
Gareth Thornton - Pearse Og
Ronan McMahon - Clan na Gael
Ryan McShane - Shane O'Neills
Cillian Laverty - Dorsey
Mickey McVeigh - Thomas Davis

Would that be all Armagh? Surely there should be more? We need Antrim, Monaghan and any other county now. So far by my reckoning that's 14 managers and probably the same again coaching. If we can get the names and numbers for the other counties it will be very interesting reading.

Square Ball

So, what about the opposite direction, what non Down coaches coaching in Down?

There's actually not too many. The ones I know of are Kilcoo, Carryduff, Saul, Liatroim, St Pauls for definite - Bredagh possibly. CNB have an outside Coach. I think there are still a few to declare (looking at Aghaderg & St Michaels as possibilities due to their proximity to other Counties). For a 42 club football County, that's real good numbers. But this is only tentative. Someone may know something that's happened recently.

Ant challenge games for Down ahead of national league. ?

It's a pity the McKenna cup was scrapped this year. I definitely would have went for a look to see how the new rules are being managed.

I'm looking forward to the Roscommon game, though I think Roscommon could be one of the teams to benefit from the new rules. I think they have the forwards to capitalise on the changes.

Having said that,  I think the tap and go rule will benefit Down, Liam Kerr in particular would have benefited from this, but unfortunately won be available.

In the inter provincial games Odhran Murdock got a hat trick from ff, I wonder will Laverty have him at ff or midfield. It's difficult to predict who the 3 players we will likely choose to stay forward and just as tricky to pick the 3 who might stay back.

Ed Hardy

Will be interesting to see the 3 left up front alright, will be an opportunity for few forwards anyhow with Kerr and McGovern not there, that's 2 of starting 6 forwards gone from Tailteann cup final, altho wee Doc was injured for that so he'll automatically come into the team somewhere. I would imagine Laverty and Fegan will definitely be two of the defenders told to sit, and probably Paddy McCarthy, but time will tell.

Why has McGovern gone? He was given plenty of oppurtunity last year to get up to speed. Pity if he jas walked away.
Would Mooney be an option as one of the 3 left up?
I think Doherty is too important to leave up there. The lad covers some amount of ground.
Looking fwd to going to the Hyde. Roscommon a decent team and would expect them to win but we need to get to the level of div2 quickly as we only have 1 home game remaining after game 3.

I presume he wont be playing, because of the soccer. Pity because he's very talented
