Meh, I don't see it as anything to do with unionism or any inherent hypocrisy. Supermarkets make a big deal of local sourcing. Wanting your spuds to ideally come from just down the road instead of Devon or somewhere isn't turning your back on the union.

It's not a Brexit issue. Within the framework of his UK he'd prefer his constituents 5 mins down the road are the producer, not a random English farmer. Just because he wants free and unfettered access and movement of goods across the Irish sea, doesn't mean he thinks it should be a complete free for all. Especially when there's easy political capital to be made of it.
