Great interview by Daniel there. He has a lot to be proud off. And there will be better days to come in the 1500. Finke got the strategy right by going for it early.

Oh 100% but just feels a bit disappointing. If it had been Bronze in the 800m and finished on Gold in 1500m it would be finishing on a high with the exact same colour of medals. All in all a good games for him.

gallsman

The 1500m would be the more prestigious race with more history behind it as well, so net win out of the meet to Finke.

I've zero knowledge of the intricies of competative swimming... maybe was a bit tired (physically/emotionally) after race during the week. Its massive tho. After initial disappointment he seemed very happy and magnanimous

Wiffens best time at 1500 wouldn't have won it for him.

Obviously. The winner set a new WR.

Point being his best swim wouldn't have been close to winning.

The lads on comms are asking if there was an issue. He didn't seem to have a kick this time.

Fink just bossed it in fairness.
them mysterons are always killing me but im grand after a few days.sickenin aul dose all the same.

Finke got his tactics spot on for sure but "what happened?" is a reasonable question given the fashion in which Wiffen qualified yesterday. He absolutely coasted to 14.40 without having to switch from his two beat kick. Finke (whose PB was 14.36 prior to tonight) either swam massively within himself yesterday, saving everything for today, or Wiffen is a touch knackered. Or both. The three of them all would have expected to go considerably faster.

Mark Foster on the BBC was saying yesterday that it was as good as done already and that he'd win the 10k as well, so it's nothing to do with Irish cheerleading.

Truthsayer

He spoke brilliantly there... has it in perspective. Hes delighted and says was "great to be on the podium with two of the best swimmers in the world". The brother seemed bit annoyed tho!

Mens 100m might see all 8 run under 10 seconds which I think would be a first. 3 or 4 of them could win it.

Capt Pat

What has happened to the Kenyans in the 1500m? They are being dominated by white runners. Something stinks.

imtommygunn

Why? Kenyans tend to focus more on marathons, 5ks, 10ks etc.

That big Jamaican, the young one, will be hard beat.

1500 was always competitive across all countries

Only 7 African winners the rest European and American
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

There were 12 sub 10s in the semis
