T&Cs of policies generally indicate that you've to notify the company of ANY incident/accident involving the car. Perfectly feasible that having hit his car, the third party left his details and immediately notified his own crowd.

The whole thing is unprofessional. If they received information from a third party then they should have informed the policyholder straight out about the nature of their business. As general_lee said they refused to state exactly what was being recorded against him.

If this was me then I would ask for all of the correspondence and call transcripts in writing. They have no basis for modifying his premium on the basis of a non event.

Nobody has said anything about modifying his premium. Yet. Non disclosure of an incident could very easily be used when pricing a renewal, regardless of the seriousness of the incident.

This is my main concern, however there was no actual damage to the car. He obviously made some minimal contact, the dust from which I was able to rub off with my hand. But had he said nothing I'd have been none the wiser. I had to look for a minute or two to see where it was. As far as I was concerned there was nothing to report.

gallsman

Absolutely, I completely agree with you and, as you say, if he hadn't left a note the irony is that you'd be none the wiser.

However, insurance companies being the c***ts that they are, could potentially point to the presumed T&Cs, say you've breached them and withdraw cover or, come renewal time, say the non-disclosure means you now represent a greater risk

Milltown Row2

Can't see how there's an 'advantage' on their part to inform their insurance company? If there was damage on their car not yours were they looking it fixed under their own insurance?

Sounds iffy as feck.

Insurance companies could increase their business by hiring people to write notes on people's cars to boost their already inflated profits!

I don't think there's any advantage, I just think fella is an idiot - he did somehow manage to (albeit only just) hit another car in an empty car park!

I know. I think I'll go full Karen mode when it's due for renewal and they up the premium. Either that or play dumb.

Again, non-disclosure is generally a breach of T&Cs. Fully aware of the litigious and fraudulent nature of the Irish insurance industry, he may have worried that general_lee, also knowing the nature of the industry, takes note of cars he parks beside or is concerned about. His mindset could be that he's hit another car and freaked the f**k out. Has taken a million photos and informed his insurance company to avoid any false claims against him. He has absolutely no idea general_lee is a good spud.

One other thing I'll say is that if you clip someone or get clipped, you have no idea what can have happened the car just by having a look around it. About 10 years ago a girl jumped into the back of me from a standing start. No apparent damage but we swapped details and went our separate ways. A few days later I noticed the boot wouldn't close properly. Closest garage I could find wanted a few hundred to fix it, she wasn't happy and told her insurance company who promptly wrote my then 15 year old Almera off.

So you have to report  every incident to your   insurance company?

No matter if there's  visible damage or not? Or whether it needs any work done  or not?

I suppose this is as good as any place to put it....

Has anyone taken up the claims with car finance?  Seems a bit like the PPI thing, but Martin Lewis is banging on about it and saying on average £1,100 is the pay back from it

Quote from: screenexile on July 09, 2024, 09:12:53 AMWho's your house insurance with lads? I paid £270 last year with a company called GetSafe who have now been taken over and won't offer me any cover. The cheapest quote I can get now is £580.

I've tried those not on the comparison sites like Axa/Aviva/Admiral/LV/Direct Line and no luck yet.

I had a similar issue with my insurer and had previously set it to auto renew as it was so cheap so never gave it a thought.
Only to realise I'd gone almost 2 years without insurance as they stopped covering NI. When I went to re-quote, prices were sky high (000s) as I have a gap in my insurance.
Still havent found a replacement for reasonable money.

Ours went from 500 odd to 900 last year. Getting quotes now for 1700 ffs. What nonsense is going on with home insurance?

Climate change leading to increase in claims related to flooding etc., inflation leading to massive increases in labour and material costs for repairs to properties and cars etc. That's the official line from the insurers but they can make any oul shite up and when one goes up they all go up.

Robbin' bastids

It's a joke - how does that make any sense to be paying 1700 per year. Have the number of claims went up significantly lately or just the cost of claims?

Milltown Row2

Their profits have significantly went up, that's for sure

I own a property in the occupied territories and it went up even more.
Originally I had a policy with AllianzNI who were part of Allianz Ireland and they even gave me a discount for having a policy in Dublin with them. Then they were driven out by Brexit and Allianz UK simply refused to cover, which is a bit off given the two decades of claim free years with another branch of the same company!
It is hard to see how risk has increased 130% in a year, some increase in construction costs notwithstanding.

Apparently, it is because younger generations are less savvy with DIY and they just claim for anything. There might be some truth in this, my late father would just have fixed something and would not have claimed unless the whole house burned down. But presumably the solution for this is a policy with a high excess which prevents minor claims.
