Make sure that at least one parent is on the policy, ideally one parent owns the yoke and adds the youth as a named driver.

Fronting a policy can be an issue if something goes wrong !

Yeah I had this issue once when I worked in Insurance. Insurance policy was under the Dad's name with the Mum and daughter named on the policy.

Daughter got into an accident and lo and behold the car was in her name. It was a massive headache and we were lucky the insurance company still covered the accident and only insisted on paying the difference in Premium which was £500.

I am not proposing "fronting" a policy. I am suggesting that these people live in the same household and make use of cars there. Plenty of cars are owned by parents and mostly driven by children, but the insurance company think that the offspring might be more careful in that scenario and the parent might insist that they were.

Who's your house insurance with lads? I paid £270 last year with a company called GetSafe who have now been taken over and won't offer me any cover. The cheapest quote I can get now is £580.

I've tried those not on the comparison sites like Axa/Aviva/Admiral/LV/Direct Line and no luck yet.

Had been with axa ni for years and their price was mad this year and no wriggle room. Can't remember exact figures, but there was enough of a difference for me to leave.

Abbeyautoline now for just under £400

Same as myself with that GetSafe crowd. To be honest I was never convinced by it as it was so cheap in comparison to others over the last few years. Never had to claim to verify that but just the feeling I got.

Had to take the hit and go with Axa. I think it was around the £600 mark for the year which seems to be the standard now.

Admiral were cheapest for me. Group it in with the wife's car and the house insurance and its 1450 or so. Hasn't changed much in last few years.

I had a similar issue with my insurer and had previously set it to auto renew as it was so cheap so never gave it a thought.
Only to realise I'd gone almost 2 years without insurance as they stopped covering NI. When I went to re-quote, prices were sky high (000s) as I have a gap in my insurance.
Still havent found a replacement for reasonable money.

Any men in here work in insurance?
Had someone hit my car in a carpark last month. He left a note and his number but there was no visible damage on my car, so I left it at that and text him telling him not to worry and thanks for being decent enough to leave a note. He never replied and thought nothing of it.

Fast forward to Friday there and I've my insurance company calling me asking me more questions than the RUC about an incident I didn't even witness and where no damage was caused. I told them as much, I asked would this affect my premium next year and couldn't get a straight answer. Conversation was made all the more difficult with it being someone for who English was not their first language. All I could get from her was that the incident was being recorded and when I went for renewal I could get better advice then.

Are the f**kers likely to increase the premium based on this?

Are you sure it was definitely your  own insurance  company that phoned you? I've never had mine phone  me even if I've been in an  accident

Sounds a bit iffy.  Could  this be a new scam?

Yes my sister in law and I have both had something similar happen and it's resulted in big premium increases come renewal time. I'm sorry to say

This seems a bit dodgy, how would someone else get the details of your insurance company. In the south it is on a disc on the screen, but not in the occupied territories.
Your premium can only go up with a claim, and what is the nature of a claim against a parked car?
I'd ring the insurance company and ask then had they been in contact with you and if so get an further explanation, but they may well say that they were not in contact with you.

Doesn't sound right at all.

Having said that if you've been in an accident and the insurance company know about even if there was no claim they can whack up the premium!

The third party would presumably have taken the poster's details and then alerted their own insurance company, who in turn contacted his.

Fine, but that would not entail a claim against general_lee's policy, as his car was parked in a car park.

He didn't say there had been a claim made against him. The insurance company contacted him and asked him questions is all we know. T&Cs of policies generally indicate that you've to notify the company of ANY incident/accident involving the car. Perfectly feasible that having hit his car, the third party left his details and immediately notified his own crowd.
