Quote from: weareros on July 05, 2024, 09:09:24 AMWhile nationalism did well to solidify NB and FST, looks like nationalist vote is at 40% if you include Aontu and PBF, whereas Unionism closer to 44%. Surprising considering a poor night for DUP and was hoping like locals it would exceed the Unionist vote. But perhaps reflective that it only needed the extra effort in the two marginal.
Alliance probably getting a lot of the green vote in places SF/SDLP had no hope. NB and FST looking very safe.

Quote from: Brendan on July 05, 2024, 06:07:29 AMWe've seen unionist pacts in North Belfast, mid ulster and Fermanagh/ South Tyrone which have failed repeatedly, they're going to need pacts for Upper Bann and East Derry next time...

SDLP have let the nationalist people down badly.

Eastwood is a clown.

Imagine Campbell getting the boot in East Derry.

Exactly my feelings too. Allister is a **** but he gets stuck in whereas Paisley has been living off his Da's name and filling his coffers.

One interesting thing was the BBC starting a narrative that SF hadn't got the vote out in FST.  It was yer man Julian based on a couple of boxes open from around Dungannon.  Mark Carruthers and Deirdre "Aren't I gorgeous" Heenan latched on to it and started criticising SF for parachuting a "celebrity candidate" into FST and that SF's focus had been too much on the South.  Very strange.

Could you explain why you think this? (I'm not criticising your opinion - I'm interested in how you formed it.)

Yeah, Fowler was literally bouncing with excitement making that announcement early doos and the studio thn latching on to it.

They interviewed he 5 mins later, and by her chat, tou'd thought she'd won it by a landslide.

It's all about demographics now.

Hanna got a free run in SB & MD but the SDLP (by Eastwood's arrogance) didn't stand aside anywhere.

They stood in LV,  East Derry and FST even (ffs).

As I say, a joke.

But you said in another thread no one cares about Westminster so what difference does it make if SF get one more MP there?

And for what its worth I agree with you regarding Westminster is an irrelevance over here in the grand scheme of things. MLA and local council elections are far more important in my eyes.

I don't think it's right. If SDLP stepped aside, TUV and UUP could follow. Their combined vote still exceeded Hunter by a few thousand. It's getting close and could go to SF next election. It's debatable  whether it's easier won with a pact or a every party for themselves.

Quit your yapping. Democracy is democracy. Standing candidates is not letting anyone down.

TBF if SDLP didn't stand maybe TUV/UUP wouldnt and theyve newr 8k between them.

If SF had got Aontu's 1k they'd have won it.

100% on your first 2 sentences though!

SF are quick to cry foul when unionists form pacts or one of them stands aside in marginal constituencies. See Elliott winning FST in 2015.

You have no right to anybody's vote. You have to earn it.

imtommygunn

I wouldn't agree with that at all. SF stood aside in one place so SDLP should stand aside in 3... I am not sure how that stacks up?

I would agree on Eastwood's arrogance but I don't think the SDLP should stand aside just because you don't like it...

Fair point. I stand over that re: Westminister.

What I'm saying SDLP didn't stand aside anywhere.
