Unless it's been given for offside against Armstrong in the build up. Does look tight there.

Not a penalty at all. Armstrong for some reason does a bizarre skip away from the ball and sticks out his leg to get clipped. Then grabs defenders jersey and pulls him around. 100% looking for it when he was already in.

Why Gunn didn't get sent off is a much more controversial question. Keepers obliterating onrushing forwards who are completely blindsided is a growing issue in the game. Ederson in particular gets away with a few of them every year.

Hound

Attacker was looking for the contact. He wasn't in control of the ball. Tight call. Grabbing the jersey would not have helped as part of the VAR review. Attacker should have concentrated on the ball instead of jumping in the way of the defender.

I agree you could argue either way for the penalty, but VAR was dead right not to intervene. Let the ref ref when it's not clearcut.

imtommygunn

He was looking but if you watch the replay it's the knee on the calf that does it for me. That is what takes him down.

Truthsayer

Unlikely the big teams like Germany or Spain would have been denied that. Penalty all day.

That's it. Armstrong was ahead and quite entitled to move where ever he wanted. He was taken out at the knee. Its a terrible decision

He can move wherever he wants. He can't stick his leg out seeking contact.

Quote from: Hound on June 23, 2024, 09:56:17 PMVAR right not to intervene. Armstrong held jersey and jumped in front of defender. Defender was very clumsy and clearly made contact. Could argue it both ways so let the ref make the decision and get on with it. The way VAR should be.

Bbc all saying it was a certain penalty. They would be saying the opposite if the boot was on the other foot and Johnny Foreigner had jumped in front of a Scottish defender and dived while dragging the defender down.
it's a clear penalty, yes the BBC are obviously going to be biased towards Scotland but in this case they have a case. If it was Ireland, rte panel would be calling for a penalty and rightly so

gallsman

I dunno, Shearer was talking shite saying because he's in front, he can do whatever he wants. If he wants to stop, he can stop etc. Nonsense. You can't body check people.

ONeill

Definitely not a penalty.

I really enjoyed it. Technically not great but both went for it.
I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.

The defender took him out by hitting him on the knee. Its so obvious

My young lad was watching it with me.

His take on it - If it was anywhere else on the pitch, it'd be a free kick....lol.

He's watching too much football analysis.

Is the semi final draw being mapped out tomorrow also?

The last ten minutes were good, when they were both going for it.  The rest was the worst game all tournament for me.

jcpen

Poor quality game, bit of excitement near the end but not much else.
As clear a peno as you will likey see in the tournament, can't believe it wasn't given or didn't even seem like there was a var check.
SHOCKING REVELATIONS!!!
