We can't get 15 played - why talk about playing 22 ?

I actually agree with the 22. No cancellations. You will always have your strongest team for at least one of the two matches against opposition. You play your promotion and relegation rivals twice in the year. A possible four points. If you are relegated after 22 games then there should be no complaints. Equally whoever is top at the end of 22 games is the worthy league winner.

so that is effectively 11 'non starred' games

this year we had 15 games in total with 5 of them starred, leaving 10 'non starred' and we couldnt make that work.

I fail to see how this would be any more workable.
I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look good either

LeoMc,

It is not only this year that has been the problem - it has been worse this year as many posters have highlighted and you are in agreement with me on the main point of communication. As I stated, this year communication was as big an issue as any - no plans put in place for scenario A or B and everyone waiting until Monday morning to find out if they have a game coming up.  If teams were aware in advance that they possibly will play option A or B then they can plan but there never was any advance notice from CB or CCC of any scenario going forward and this caused ill feeling among the ordinary club player.

However, from memory and without much investigation, ACL game 1 was called off to facilitate NFL semi and then played the Sunday before the NFL final !! - what was the point in calling it off for the semi. We got to game 7 then all of a sudden games are delayed due to county teams for various reasons (13 day rule, 6 day rule, weekend training) In senior league the last 8 games were mostly played out of sequence from the original schedule whereas 1-7 went as planned.

The senior c'ship initially was planned for weekend of August 9-11 but was pulled and not played until early September. I think from mid August to early October some teams only played max 2 games if they lost c'ship 1st round game.

I admit it is a hard problem to solve but no one seems to have a viable solution. I personally think if we went back to 4x12 and played H & A then that is 22 games with NO cancellations but then the question is how can we handle 22 games when we cant handle 15. one solution is to start in early March (lot of Tyrone teams play UL which is in Feb) and play every Sunday. How we accommodate county players and starred games needs to be carefully planned if we went down this route but we have to try other options as the current situation is not working.

Yes, we can say that this year was an exception as minors and seniors doing well caused these issues but we will always do well - we are a top county and should always be hope to be playing in August so we need to plan our schedule around this.

Much of that I agree with. You make another valid point re the lack of scenarios in place. The IC fixtures are known in advance and the potential routes of advancement are known so the opportunity to have the alternatives in place are there. However the 6 day and 13 days rules are also there. It is not MH & MD ringing up the fixtures committee on a whim and demanding games be cancelled. It is for their benefit those rules are in place but it is not their doing. Those black-out periods around IC matches need to be taken into consideration in any master fixtures plan. See Wee Donns thread on this. It would not be easy but it is possible.

Planning and communication are the issues, not Managers riding roughshod over the other 98%.

I don't think there should be a free weekend on the weekend prior to an Ulster Championship game, and games fixed for that Friday evening (9 day rest). However the team should get a free weekend prior to any backdoor/ All Ireland series game.

So basically any knockout game gets the free weekend, while any Ulster Championship game gets a 9 day break.

Some money raised!!

[quoteThe recent treasurers report confirms that Club Tyrone contributed £444,000 towards Tyrone GAA in 2013.  It's a staggering amount of money considering the current economic situation.  The figure is the biggest total raised in a  year by Club Tyrone since the fundraising operation  began back in the late 1990′s.  Much of the money raised in the last couple of years has been ring-fenced for the Garvaghey Project.  Close to 300 patron pledged £5000 towards that project lifting some £1.36m.  There can be no doubt that Club Tyrone is the most successful fundraising body in the 32 counties.][/quote]

So with 2014 in the horizon, any predictions as to how the club football scene will pan out?

Senior/Div 1

Although arguably not the highest standard in Ulster, at least senior football in Tyrone is very competitive compared to most other counties in the province. No team has retained the O'Neill Cup since Carrickmore in 2005 though looking at Clonoe's performance in the SFC in 2013 if they keep the same level up it will take a very good team to stop them doing two in a row. This might be Dromore's last chance to win the SFC with this current crop of players especially with the likes of Ricey, McCullagh etc. now well into their mid-30's. You could look at about seven potential teams who will fancy their chances. At this stage, I'll go for Ardboe to take the trophy to the lough shore - even with a 1st round replay loss to Trillick in 2013, they had a decent league campaign and I reckon with a solid manager & coach to iron out their weaknesses they can take it. In the league I'll go for Clonoe to take the 2014 D1 title. Elsewhere a lot of eyes will be on Eskra - I reckon they'll survive relegation in their first senior season. The other two teams promoted, Moortown will finish lower-mid table while Strabane might struggle.

Predictions
SFC: Ardboe
SFL: Clonoe
SFL Top 4: Carrickmore, Dromore & Coalisland
Bottom 3: Strabane, Donaghmore & Augher

Great Post!! I don't see a senior championship in Ardboe for a long time yet.  The usual names will all be in contention: Dromore, Errigal, Carrickmore, Clonoe an possibly Coalisland but not Ardboe in my opinion.  Ardboe, Cookstown and Omagh will be all mid to high end of the table.   As for relegation you could add Moy and Eglish  as potential fallers.  I think Donaghmore have made a great managerial appointment and shouldn't require the begging bowl that they have used so well in past seasons.  Will be interesting to see what happens as the year progresses

Who is managing Donaghmore this year?
