Firstly Suarez, as we said, had only himself to blame, for the live bite on Ivanovic.

But the FA seem to make it up as they go along. The moral on this is you want to revenge a player on the field or someone is pissing you off, break his leg and take a three game ban. You may even get a yellow and escape scot free.

It'll be interesting to see their reasoning on it. In the past the Thatcher ban was increased, as was the Davis ban, due to the exceptional damage caused and thats how defeo got off. While Suarez was totally wrong, that is hardly the case here?

I think Gary Neville was spot on when he said there's a cultural thing about spitting and biting that makes "us" recoil in disgust far more than a "manly" bad tackle. If Suarez had lunged two footed at Ivanovic and broke his leg, he would not have got near a 10 game ban. Yet in this case, when Ivanovic's injury was checked after the game there was no mark to be found. Suarez's intent was to annoy Ivanovic, not to hurt him.

Rugby had a similar case with a chap who spat in Stringer's face getting a 10 or 12 match ban. Yet you see Healy and O'Driscoll getting banned for a couple of matches for what could be described as thuggery (but some would describe as part of the game), and of course O'Connell getting nothing at all. You could be sure Dave Kearney would have gladly swapped incidents with either Stringer or Ivanovic! 

I think Liverpool will leave it up to him as to whether to appeal or not. I expect a big money bid will come in for him in the summer and LFC will accept so whether its 6, 8 or 10 matches will not matter.

he seems to make it an annual thing to humiliate his employers and a great club, at what point does a supporter say that the reputation of the club is worth more than a lunatic player who happens to be a world class player?

If this was a Henderson or a Downing they would be effed out on their ear, Hannibal could bite the bag off of a team mate in training and they would forgive him.

It has been a dark two years for Liverpool in terms of reputation, for the clubs sake i hope Suarez isn't around to damage it further.

Whist going by past violent conduct bans 10 games seems heavy the FA are obviously laying down a,marker to club and player.  LFCs belligerent support of racist  behaviour hasn't gone down well and ultimately Rodgers is paying the price for poor decision making on the part of Daglish and LFCs incompetent PR dept last year.

Some shite being spouted on here as usual by obsessed opposition supporters. Can't just let it go with one or two posts, constantly trying to bring the club down by questioning LFCs handling and refering to the 'Evra incident' and all that bullshit. Suarez was completely wrong and has himself to blame, but this in noway represents LFC, a brilliant club respected all over the world. Ten game ban is a lot but he should probably take it and move on, if gets reduced even better. A lot of retrospective views and comparisons being done to other incidents and players and rules etc, hard to say what exactly would have been fair, but I would be certain he will be straight back into the no7 shirt for us end of Sept next year, and can't wait, such a player. Those asking for him to be sacked etc have short memories and I will say nothing more than that. Many posts on here, Facebook, Twitter etc simply have to be taken with a (large) pinch of salt as it is just mainly utd supporters getting off on a chance to get their digs in at LFC and Suarez.

Not hashing over old ground but I was one to question this, the handling of this might have been down to KD or the players but it had to be sanctioned by the club at some level and I think LFC lost alot of respect from fans who would not normally have been staunchly anti Liverpool.

I would have classed myself in that band, a United fan but not a Liverpool hater. I think you have to realise the damage and the fall out from that incident. Dress it up any way you like by sharing the blame with Evra but the way things happened after the incident has left a bad taste in the mouth both with Suarez and LFC.

The club could and should, have handled the Evra case better. I firmly believe there wouldn't have been anywhere near as big a stink in media circles had Sepp Blatter not been public enemy number one after the manner in which he stitched up England's World Cup bid like a kipper. Having pronounced that racism should be dealt with by a handshake (something Gordon Taylor, who was quick to denounce Suarez, had agreed with back in the 1990's when England's Brave Stuart Pearce was the accused), there was a mood to demonstrate that English football was going to put clear blue water being itself and Blatter with his shifty ways, and this was an ideal opportunity to do it. Unfortunately the club completely misread the situation and continued employing a legalistic defence when everyone around them was waving banners proclaiming Down With This Sort Of Thing. The current situation is informed by that brouhaha and while I appreciate it's sensible to wait until all the facts are known before shooting their mouth off, I really hope they've learned the lesson from the last time that this is a battle that cannot be won.
