Quote from: twohands!!! on May 21, 2024, 01:24:00 AMHeaton-Harris not running for re-election and a general election around the corner.

Can't shake the feeling the current plan is to leave it in the in-tray for Labour to deal with.

The election being called on 4th of July looks like it's going to complicate things even further.
I feared the Rishi and the Tories would try to drag out having an election for as long as possible (the latest the election could be held is something like the middle of next January) while refusing to actual commit the money for the stadium, which would have surely meant going back to the drawing board with a much smaller capacity stadium.

Hopefully this will mean that Labour will be in charge with enough time to make a decision on how much they are going to contribute and that they uphold the previous government's commitment to underwrite the cost. Unless London stump up the vast majority of the overall cost, I just can't see any possibility the current proposal gets built.

Half the country will be away on holiday here.  I'll have to get the postal vote sorted.

I'm not sure the term "Western" is appropriate, every west European country and Canada, Australia and New Zealand support the ICC.

The USA don't.

Then the post should have referred to the USA and not to "Western".

While your post shouldn't have made the claim that "every western country" supports the ICC.

The point I was making is that the "western" world were up and arms and rightly so when Russia invaded Ukraine, sanctions, diplomats getting banned etc etc, but when Israel starts slaughtering the Palestinians on a scale that would make Pol Pot blush, there's none of the same concern.

Is there any nuance at all between the two conflicts or do you reckon they're directly comparable?

The direct comparison is that innocent women and children are being killed in both.

what other nuance do you need?

JMD Final is not on their schedule Mossey. I'd be confident it will be on Clubber TV though. So, perhaps they'll have it? They've covered it all so far: https://www.clubber.ie/sports/gaa/joe-mcdonagh-cup

Failing that, Aer Lingus have a sale on! Flights, Buses and Match Day tickets probably under $1k and ring the folks in Laois for a bed! :D

Bad timing for the DUP.  "Safeguarding the Union" dead in the water, the ruling that the Rwanda act doesn't apply in NI.  Big Gavin Robinson under pressure in East Belfast, South Antrim maybe in the mix.  While I think he'll be re-elected, Eastwood's majority of 17,000 should be well reduced.  For SF, there's Fermanagh & Sth Tyrone.  Michelle Gildernew is standing in the Euro elections in the South.  If she wins a seat she can't run for Westminster and even if she doesn't win, surely SF have to declare their candidate in FST before 7 June?

Looks like Rishi is announcing a summer election.

Maybe hoping for a bit of Euros feel good from the electorate but surely they are on the road out.

Jeffrey about to lose his income and expenses too.
