No talk about this famous old competition which starts on Saturday.
London v Rhubarbs
NY v Ros
Sligo v Leitrim.
Semis - Galway v Sligo/Leitrim,
Winners of the overseas games.
Barring a major upset Galway in the Final v more than likely Rhubarbs.
So Galway to get a home pairing in the Sam Maguire they dont have to play a team in Division 1/2. Sounds about right!
Sounds like Roscommon's trip to New York could be the last of any Connacht county.
Up for review/discussion after Sunday. Looks like the options are
New York traveling to Connacht venues as they did in 1999,00,01.
Tailteann Cup only for New York
It'd be a real shame as it's bound to be a serious few days craic and all but sounds like the cost is mental.
Mayo line up for Saturdays championship opener.

They should let every county have a go at going to London and New York. Always great occasions for Connacht teams. Interesting how against it the Connacht Council are all of a sudden. I wonder if the €50,000 grant towards it is now needed to strap down the big white tent in Bekan lest the next bad storm makes off with it again.
I'd expect the Insurance on it has gone up considerably!
What's up with Matty Ruane this year Mayo folk?
Quote from: thewobbler on April 10, 2026, 12:11:53 PMWhat's up with Matty Ruane this year Mayo folk?
Coming back from a couple of injuries. According to local reports he is back in training the past couple of weeks.
London 0-4 Mayo 0-11 after 20 minutes. 5 two pointers for Mayo.
Half time London 0-6 Mayo 0-17. 7 two pointers for Mayo.
Very strong breeze. 11 point lead would not be enough against a Div 1 team but Div 4 London are physically well off Mayo. Thought they should have had a penalty though.
First score of the 2nd half a London goal. 1-6 to 0-17.
Mayo respond with three points in a row. 1-6 to 0-20
Full time London 1-15 Mayo 0-31. Three two pointers for London late on.
After 20 minutes Sligo 0-7 Leitrim 1-4.
A 2nd goal for Leitrim 2-6 to 0-7 they lead.
Half-time Sligo 0-7 Leitrim 2-7
A 3rd goal for Leitrim 3-10 to 0-10 ahead now.
Sligo goal 1-10 Leitrim 3-11
Barry McNulty having some game. Poacher for the 2nd year in a row has got a kick out of Leitrim for their Connacht championship game.
Three minutes to go Sligo 1-20 Leitrim 3-15
Leitrim win by one
Well done Leitrim.
That's a great win!
Fair play Leitrim.
Well done Laythrum.
I wonder can O'Hara drive a bus?
GAA+ stream very stop start for this New York v Roscommon game.
Half time New York 1-4 Roscommon 5-11. A red cars for Daire Cregg before the break, for a drag to the ground which will surely be appealed.
Daire Cregg red card a bit of a balls.
Congrats to Leitrim . First championship win against Sligo in 15 years.

Thought he raised hand during the wrestle. Cawley appeared to go advice of linesman. Cregg was involved in a niggle with NY no 2 prior to that incident when he tried him. Nothing too serious as other player didn't make big deal of. Happen around 30 min when ball went out of play.
That was a complete joke of a straight red card by Cawley. The game was played in a very clean spirit and it was unnecessary to kill his Connacht Championship over a tussle he didn't even start, and was having a fine game. We'll see what happens with an appeal but fear the worst. Still expect to give Mayo a good rattle in Castlebar. 50/50.
It was nothing incident and a red card for Daire Cregg that should be successfully appealed.
Semi finals

New York player came up late behind Daire, grabbed him after ball was released, and he just brushed him away. There wasn't even a reaction from the NY player. Anyway good to know ye are worried.
Would be 5 aside contests if players got sent off for incidents like that.
Bad news for Roscommon is Brendan Cawley was the referee, one of HQs favourites and they won't want to show him up to be wrong.

How out of touch the Connacht GAA are really shone through with that John Prenty interview on Midwest radio today.
His excuse for charging 35€ for stand tickets including the same price for a child for the upcoming semi finals was ridiculous.

Heard that. He won't have endeared himself to Mayo supporters by saying the real ones get their tickets from their clubs and the stand was half empty for the London match because the majority never made it past the tent! Saying the Connacht Council loses are nothing to do with Dome was hard to buy. However he is right on one point - its still a fiver for children using the concrete seating.
Time for Prenty to start his retirement.
He's a good administrator I've no doubt, but he's a dinosaur who is too stubborn and too out of touch.
Relic from a different era.

Thats a brutal call.
Its actually a disgraceful decision and one of many Brendan Cawley has made against Roscommon. But sure we're the good boys who will take our medicine. I was there and only thing Daire was guilty of was showing the back a clean pair of heels and kicking points from all angles, who then tackled him off the ball and Daire only brushed him away. In fact practically every commentator has said the same.

They're tightening down on the appeals process big time. Ger Brennan's ban is also a complete farce in that he can't even take training. It used to be bad the other way where everyone would get off on appeal but looks like they're swinging too far the other way now
Would like to hear or read the report as to why that was deemed a red card offence? video evidence I don't even think should be a yellow nevermind a red.
Category III Infractions
"5.17 To strike or to attempt to strike an opponent with arm, elbow, hand or knee with minimal force."
After seeing the footage (especially the sideline footage) I'm actually surprised Roscommon bothered to appeal this. Unless there was some sort of procedural error, there wasn't a hope in hell this was going to be over-turned.
Thought they'd take it to the DRA, suppose they still can.
Its a farce of a decision.
In fairness its not Brendan Cawley to blame her, who was the linesman? He could easily hold his hands up and admit he's made a mistake after reviewing the evidence.

You need another look at the footage then as it was pushing his marker out of the way something that's regularly done in games than a strike or to attempt to strike an opponent.

Is that 5 players from the Gaeltacht region starting for Galway?
Not too sure if Bearna could be considered Gaeltacht from what I know of it, but 4 is decent representation, it used to be mainly north Galway
Bearna is most certainly Gaeltacht. Add in Sean Kelly, Fitzgerald and Barrett off the bench also. To up the quota even further, you could include Flaherty and Comer, as there are areas of Claregalway and Annaghdown also considered as Gaeltacht. Paul Conroy often does analysis for TG4.
Roscommon have named a 26 without Ben O'Carroll,Ruaidhri Fallon,Brian Stack and Daire Cregg who remains suspended after his 2nd appeal wasn't successful last night.

Yes, few more on the bench as well. Technically Moycullen is in the Gaeltacht as well even though it's largely English speaking so you have to include Sean Kelly. I think he has Irish.
Think I can count 6 Irish speakers starting and another 2 on the bench. Cian Hernon's father is from the Aran Islands so presume he has Irish. Paul Conroy's father is from Connemara.
Possibility Comer has Irish as well but don't think I've heard him speaking it.

Yes, Most it not all of Claregalway is still in the Gaeltacht I believe. Although wouldn't be much Irish spoken out there these days. Traditionally there was a good bit.
No one talking about the game.
Presumably a handy one for Galway who are then guaranteed a home game in Round 1.
Whatever chance we had against Mayowestros is gone with Creggs suspension.
Damage limitation and then get down to preparing for a trip to...
I suppose the DRA is the last chance saloon but will be another box ticking exercise by the administrators. Decision upheld. I think we should do it anyway under the leaving no stone unturned. If you told me after club All-Ireland no Brigids players would start against Mayo in the championship, i'd have said you're mad but Stack, Fallon are still recovering from injury. Cunnane and Hand should make an appearance at some stage. It will be a tough one, but i still think we can do it.

Would be Stacks first appearance since the All-Ireland club final in January. Fallon,O'Carroll got little game time for Roscommon during the league and didn't play against New York.

Would be Stacks first appearance since the All-Ireland club final in January. Fallon,O'Carroll got little game time for Roscommon during the league and didn't play against New York.
Fair enough.
Was Fallon the guy that kicked the two pointers in the club final?
Thought he'd have been fit to go or did he pick up a knock since?
Injured just after coming on as a sub v Donegal.
Mayo should be winning this well. I expect them to beat Galway in two weeks.
Sean Fitzgerald in for Cian Hernon the one change for Galway. Jack Glynn added to subs. A 19th championship campaign for Paul Conroy is some stat on longevity.
Leitrim start as selected.
Half time Leitrim 0-4 Galway 0-11

Seen refs just throw the ball in before to the one team!
A lot of the matches have been poor enough. Severe lack of quality.
Leitrim and Galway would put you to sleep. Only good thing is the weather.
Galway black Conor Flaherty as he gave away a penalty and scored after the rebound. Leitrim 1-6 Galway 0-12
Not sure what the goalkeeper can do there when the player jus ran straight at him.
Serious amount of niggle in this. And ref is making it look worse than it is.
Leitrim: 2-8 Galway 1-17. Comer just on sets up a goal. Gleeson with a poor kick out gifts a goal to Leitrim.
64 minutes on the clock Leitrim 2-12 Galway 1-18
FT Leitrim 2-12 Galway 1-20

Don't suppose anyone could lend us a keeper. Pretty please.
Ten points up in total control and two shite short kickouts give Leitrim 1-2.
There's always a disastrous mistake in the locker at any moment with Gleeson.
I'm not convinced Flaherty is an upgrade.
Has a better mid range kick probably but not as much distance and his short ones go astray as much as Gleesons do
Thought that a few years ago and always expected a new keeper to appear but they stick with this guy. Maybe the best of a bad bunch
Keepers, especially nowadays have mistakes in them.
I think too much pressure on them to land a ball exactly in a lad's hand.
What about the 'win your own ball' basics out the field? Too much emphsis on the keeper.

Maybe there's nobody out there better I dunno. This goalkeeping problem and the lack of anybody who can kick a long range free or 45 off the deck are issues that have been there since Pj took over and they haven't been addressed. This is his 7th season in charge ffs.
Walsh in '22 is the only time we had any type of free taking consistency off the ground.
He's had quad problems in the meantime so hasn't been taking them as often and when he has he's been missing them.
They'd be as well to carry a lad who otherwise wouldn't make the team for two point frees alone.
Barry McHugh for example - lacks the pace and athleticism for that level & wouldn't be near the team if he wasn't a free taker but if all he did was nail dead balls he'd be worth his spot. The two point rule makes it worth carrying someone with his level of Dead ball accuracy. It won't happen now though

Absolutely. But if you're continually f**king up attempting short ones then don't do them. Stick to long ones. Especially when you're ten points up!

Absolutely if in doubt hoof it out lol. Once it goes long it's on the outfield players.
I saw a Rossie geansaí on Shop Street in Galway today.
Very poor performance from Galway today. Whoever wins on Sunday will be favourites for the Connacht title despite Galway going for 5 in a row or whatever. They just didn't seem up for the game at all. If Barry McNulty had his shooting boots on, Leitrim could have won that game. Goalkeeper issue hangs over this Galway side like a black veil. You can't be coughing up scores due to your own awful kick outs.
Not unusual to struggle in the first game out. Galway could easily have lost to Sligo 2 years ago and they ended up in the AI final. They need something similar to compete the next day out. Best you can say is that Joyce said he has a stick to beat them with now for the next 2 weeks. It'll be badly needed.
Mayo certainly won't be worried about Galway in final. Galway have gone backwards this year. Still as reliant as ever trying to get Shane Walsh and Damien Comer on pitch. Build the team around Matthew Tierney and Larry Finnerty. Have Thompson to come back too.
Brian Stack, Ben O'Carroll and Fallon togging out for Brigids this weekend.

Brian Stack has been injured since the club championship and Fallon picked up a bad ankle injury against Donegal. It's right to let them get fitness with their clubs. Daire Cregg also played with his club yesterday because he is unfairly suspended for today. Cunnane and Hand will play some part today and Conor Carroll has reclaimed the goalie spot even though his cousin Aaron Brady was excellent in the league. Wooly should stop acting like an auld wan gossiping in the corner shop.

Conor Loftus with a big influence on that Mayo half time lead. Half time Mayo 1-11 Roscommon 1-8
Living on scraps, be lucky not to let this get out of reach.
Mayo will need sort out goalie and defensive spine for Connacht final. Never learned from first league against Galway from defensive point of view.
Roscommon playing well in fits and starts
Mayo just struggle when the pressure is on
Mayo favourites for this?
Where Roscommon get all the good forwards out off? Some names am unfamilar with.
Mayo have been shocking this second half! I watched a bit of the first half and they give the ball away a lot but they just haven't had any possession to do anything this half.
What the chances of captain elbows doing a Michael Murphy?
A proper Mayo meltdown...self inflicted!

Unreal win by the rossies, totally dominated that 2nd half.

Another unlikely victory. Roscommon, Westmeath and Down all overcoming unlikely odds. Wicklow were an inch away from it too last week.
While we are getting classics over on the hurling side, we are getting shocks on the football side. And its making for two great Championships.

Rossies 2nd half performance today reminded me of their 1st half performance against Armagh in the league this year. When they are good they can be clinical. Diarmuid Murtagh,Darragh Heneghan really stood up after that joke of suspension for Cregg.
As for Mayo, Kobe McDonald will be some loss to his county and the sport.
That big win against a 2nd string Roscommon team did them no favours.
That was a mighty 2nd half, helped by those 3 points before ht.
Reminded me of 1st half v Armagh right enough but "that was only th'oul League"; as were the 2nd and 4th quarters v Kerry, 2nd half v Galway and last quarter v Donegal (wind and hailstones too)
Ye'll have to excuse me if I'm getting a bit excited about our team....
That's a statement win for Ros. They have serious shooters and some great players to come back into the team yet. Will be a great Connacht final in 2 weeks. Is Ben O Carroll gone off the panel?

At 11/8 with PPs currently, Rossies have to be flabbergasting value for the final. That's not yerrahing either; they'll be stronger again the next day with Cregg and maybe a couple of the Brigid's lads returning. They have home advantage too, though that mightn't faze Galway too much. Galway themselves may be missing Johnny McGrath and their forwards struggled to get going v Leitrim until Walsh's introduction. A big ask I think to achieve 5-in-a-row.
We haven't bet Galway in a Senior Championship match in the Hyde since 1990 would ya believe!

Counts for little in Connacht as Rosfan points out a long time since Roscommon beat Galway in Hyde Park in the championship.
The most recent time Mayo beat either of Galway or Roscommon in a Connacht SFC match at Castlebar was the 2014 Nestor Cup decider win over Galway. The last time Mayo beat Roscommon in a provincial tie at the venue was in the semi-final the previous year.
During which time Mayo lost at MacHale Park to Galway in 2016 and 2018, Roscommon in 2019, Galway in 2022, Roscommon in 2023, Galway 2025 and yesterday to Roscommon.
Fine win for Roscommon yesterday the ten point winning margin didn't flatter them. Smith,Murtagh to the fore again and didn't miss Dáire Cregg at all.
Mark Dowd and his management attacked the weaknesses in the Mayo team.
Hennelly kick outs hit and miss at the best of times
Brickenden at full back and Coyne at corner back both struggled in the league and brought that form into yesterday's game.
A championship untested midfield pairing in B. Tuohy, D. McBrien the latter is a defender and I'm sure after yesterday that's him done playing in midfield.
Galway are rightly favourites for the final given they'll be going all out to win five in a row and Hyde park is a home from home for them. They have come through semi-finals before where they were less than impressive and then produced a performance in the final.
They don't have the midfield or defence weaknesses to exploit like Mayo did yesterday and a forward line that's greatly boosted by the return of Comer and Walsh.

One of my earliest Connacht finals. I remember it well. Roscommon were brilliant in the second half yesterday
Was some 2nd half performamce right enough.
Your bucks will be a harder challenge though.
I was talking to some of my father's cousins at a funeral. They are huriing people like myself but they take an interest in football like myself. And they don't rate Joyce at all. I think he might end up like Anthony Cunningham. Winning a Roscommon championship but not el gordo.
https://youtu.be/-l5DLZjVC4g
For every 4.4 championships that Galway and Mayo win, Roscommon win 1. It might be time for some mean reversion.
Seemed like Roscommon were living on scraps in that first 20 minutes, think it was nearly the 25th minute before they hit their second point and considering they scored 25 points I can't recall too many 2 pointers either so really doesn't reflect well on Mayo. Haven't seen the stats but seemed like Roscommon totally dominated the kickouts the 2nd half. There'll probably be one big win in Mayo this summer as there has been the last 5 years but couldn't see why the bookies had them 3rd favorite's, its pretty much the same group of players who've done nothing since their last All Ireland appearance.
Roscommon were outstanding and rightly so majority of the pundits will tip them to beat Galway, I'd like to think they won't dominate the kickouts the next day and won't have the freedom of the park to kick scores for fun either.
Lets see what Galway turn up, if Tierney is out he's a big loss. One of Galways best players in the league and always a great outlet for the kickouts. Interesting to se what he does with Enda Smith as Kieran Molloy who's marked him so often surely has to be out of favour after a really poor league.
It was a nervey start for us, took a long time to settle but we had already turned screw before H/T. Mayo had a 6 point lead that we reduced to two. Kobe got a late point that put Mayo 3 up, but overall we finished that half stronger. Many Mayo people blaming the goalie but Moran played a good few players short of match fitness. There were a few commentators in the media questioning why Dowd did not have some top Brigids players on 26 and even doing a bit of muckraking. But those players had little to no county football all year because of injury/needed break after club and under new rules, on a warm day, faster ground, you'll get badly exposed for pace. That I thought was Mayo's bigger problem and a month of hard training, let them play with clubs, could do wonders. Galway will be a different kettle of fish, much better structured team.

Pj said after the game at the weekend that Tierney and Thompson are both out of the final whereas Cian Hernon should be okay.
Molloy picked up Smith in the '22 Connacht final. His form since that season has been terrible really to be blunt about it. On all known form he will do well the make the 26 at all.
Maher did well on him in '23 in Hyde Park as did Mulkerrin last year.
He is such a key player for Ros.
Not sure what the story is with Johnny McGrath - heard a rumour of broken ribs but no idea if that's accurate or not.

I remember Mulkerrin getting plaudits for spoiling Smith in last year's game. He's probably most likely again. That game was never a contest though so you couldn't count on it
Smiths such an incredible player though. Obviously he gets lots of plaudits but I actually still think he's a bit underrated. Is there a half forward / midfielder that scores goals at the rate he does in the game? I think he's probably ahead of everyone in that regard. If you count him as a midfielder then the only players who get near him in the scoring stakes in recent times are Conroy and Fenton. Odhran Murdock troubles the scoreboard heavily too tbf but he's very young yet
The motivation angle is interesting. Obviously it's a huge deal for Roscommon. I kinda think it'll be a big deal for Galway also given the 5 in a row angle, but at the same time you can't be certain. Winning it doesn't matter a jot for the All Ireland series and the team came out flat as a pancake v Dublin last year two weeks after winning Connacht

Roche/Molloy in for Daly/O'Conghaile in changes for Galway. Roscommon starting as selected.
Goal for Galway. Anthony Finnerty with big score against the win.
What is he supposed to do there when the Galway defender pushed him in the air to send him over the halfway line? Should never be a breach for that
Terrific game. With the wind in he second half you'd have to fancy Roscommon as big favourites unless Galway really turn it up. Kieran Molloy fancying himself for and then nailing a two pointer tells you just how strong the breeze really is. I thought Roscommon were maybe being a bit guilty of overdoing things when all they needed to do was tack on points when they could and then bang, two goals in the space of a minute or so.
Fair play to Anthony Finnerty scoring a great goal like that at his age.
Half-time Roscommon 2-8 Galway 1-14. Five two pointers for Galway the difference in that half.

Fair play to the Rossies. It looked a long way back at 6 down, but they never panicked.
Roscommon a better team than Galway, though Galways bench nearly turned it around for them. Roacommon could go abit in the All-Ireland series!
Thought Hurson was kind to the Rossies in the end moving that free up for a 2 pointer.

Quote from: SouthOfThe Bann on May 10, 2026, 06:00:21 PMGame management from Galway after getting Comers goal was shocking.
How many times did they kick the ball up in the air.
And then Comers giving the 50 metre penalty away.
We do this all the time.
We could be 15 points up and we would let whoever we're playing back into the game.
Pj has questions to answer over his team selection today. Roche, Molloy and O'Flaherty have absolutely no form all year to deserve starting a Connacht final.
Roche had a few games in the league and was dreadful.

Yeah they easily could have closed that game out with the possession thry had.
Where was the marking for that 2 pointer straight after the goal too.

A bookies dream.
Anyone that thinks the provincial championships are dead needs to watch that game back and see the scenes at the end with the pitch celebrations.
Galway went all out to win 5 and row and looked certain winners when 6 points ahead with ten minutes to play but what a grandstand finish for Roscommon huge bench impact to remarkably get their first Hyde Park championships win v Galway since 1990 and a first Connacht title in that venue since 2001.
Well Done Roscommon and hard luck Galway.
Congrats to the Rossies, strong finish and had all the momentum at the right time. Kick a few very good scores to win it. Plenty of positives for Galway with many injured lads on the way back. However, also plenty of questions as usual around team selection (that started) game management and kick-outs.
Unreal game of football as a neutral, good to see the Rossies break the Galway run.
Comer hard done by for that 50m advancement.
Congrats Roscommon, thought Galway were in for a right trimming at half time. Game was lost in first half with the half arsed tactics of pressing Carroll's kickouts, Joyce 100% to blame for that; Setup was diabolical and should never happen again, can't win a game like that.
Who's the clown who said Comer knew what he was at, never a free in the first place. Watched the game with plenty of neutrals who wanted Roscommon to win who all agree Hurson was riding Galway. Thats not the 1st time Galway have been on the wrong end of a really poor decision by Hurson in the final moments.
But it's Galway's own fault, kickouts in first half along with bizare selection of Molloy, Roche and O'Flaherty who were all poor come back to haunt Galway. Didn't expect any of 3 to see any game time never mind start, Molloy had a shocking league.
But there are positives, when early in the 2nd half when it looked like they'd be well beaten they dug in deep and dominated for 20 minutes and took control.
Just seen the kick out stats, says it all.

It depends when the ref blew the whistle, couldn't tell from telly. If it was blown for initial challenge/foul, then Comer stopped Roscommon taking the quick free and the 50m was warranted.
Didn't see any sign of Hudson riding Galway at all.

Was it not moved up because he was playing an advantage and then Comer didn't give the ball back rather than a foul by Comer? That's what I thought in real time anyway.
Like many people I was bemused when the referee brought up the ball - I thought it was a lineball but there must have been a free called. Anyway it is too harsh a penalty - a gift of 2 points.
Congratulations to Roscommon - they played some fine football and will be a match for most teams in the AI series.
A great achievement to take a clean sweep of Minor, U-20 and Senior provincial titles.
It was a free 3/4 secs before he went over the line, looks sorta obvious on the Sunday game.
A free was given and Comer was penalised for not allowing the free to be taken. The excuse given is that Comer didn't hear the whistle or him playing so little football the last year wasn't that familiar with that rule.
Either way Hurson didn't ride Galway on that incident.

Yes that's what happened. A rule we need is another debate.
Enjoyable game whereby two Division one teams gave it their all and was decided on fine margins.
On a side note its really stupid by HQ to lessen the importance of provincial championships when we have such a competitive sport at the moment.

I think you're referring to me so I will give you a polite answer without the lack of manners you put into your post.
The whistle had blown well in advance of Comer further fouling and then interfering with the Roscommon player who was in possession of the ball. This was exactly why the 50m punishment was introduced.

Exactly. It showed poor judgement by Comer, a bit like the Derry player who give Beggan the chance for the last minute free in extra time in the Derry-Monaghan game.
First time in Roscommon's history to win the three Connacht titles in Senior,U20,U17 in one year
Last achieved by Mayo in 2009 Senior,U21,U18.
Mayo did it in 1985, 1997 also and was done twice by Galway, in 1987 and 2005.
Serious game for the neutral, well done to the Rossies. Both sides a decent chance at an All Ireland if they can play to their best.
Jases lads it was some win, some day and night.
Some 10 or 12 days, 3 Conbacht titles..
Pinch me to see if I'm just dreaming about it all.

Fair play, great times for the Rossies
Haven't seen the Comer one back yet but as others have said it's their own fault and can't be upset with Hurson. The amount of kickouts Roscommon got away was scandalous. If they face an even better team than Roscommon it wouldn't even be a contest
I'd only seen it once at the time, the excuse of Comer not hearing the whistle probably doesn't wash from him.
Hurson did miss 2 blatant black cards, the one on Comer was a rugby challenge and he completely missed the deliberate trip on McDaid around the 50 minute mark where Walsh scored a 2 point free.
But the big take away from the gam is the kick out stats that were 34-19 in Roscommons favour, Galway would have been hammered against Kerry/Donegal/Armagh with that level of incompetency. Galway had to work a lot harder in the 2nd half to get their scores as opposed to Roscommon did in the 1st.
Roscommon's 2 first half goals are horrific from a Galway point of view, far worse then I first thought. I was very surprised to see O'Flaherty start, from giving the ball away to his half arsed attempt at stopping Henneghan its not good enough. Didn't get Roche starting, could have understood if he drifted out but he didn't and he was no scoring threat at all!
Just hope McDaids injury isn't too bad, he was one of Galway better players if not the best.
But well done to Roscommon, at 6 points down they looked beaten but kicked a couple of great scores to get them back in it.

On another day that stat would have been 34-19 in Galway's favour. Do you think Galway just got really bad at kickouts or for the most part the long kickouts are a lottery? 1 day or for spells during a game it'll work in your favour, other times it won't. Teams have very little control though overall

If you watch Galway regularly - as I do obviously - you'll find that it's a recurring theme. We are not doing well on kickouts all year. Roscommon got a mountain of short ones away in the first half which contributes hugely to that stat. Most teams are able to manufacture a certain amount of mid range ones on their own restarts.
We can't do it because neither of our keepers are good enough kickers. When they try it there's a good chance it backfires and we concede a point or a goal chance

Bingo,
Roscommon #6 blatant trip on McDaid.
Marty Morrissey says he was clearly tripped, he never even mention a thing about a Black card , which is the penalty for a trip.
Walsh kicked a massive two pointer from the resulting free, Marty morrisey was more worried about telling everyone that he was kicking in the direction or Roscommon town , than mentioning that it was against the wind and it put Galway back Up By a point
Unreal
He sucks as a commentator, he missed so many vital passages, he seems to have his stupid prepared marks ready before the game starts and then just inserts them when they have no real relevance to the action.

Couldn't agree more and sums up RTE's approach to gaelic football. A game for boggers - shure they all love Marty...he's wild craic.
Ref also missed two black cards for Galway players at vital stages.
When Galway were well on top in the first half there was a rugby tackle on the stand side on a Roscommon player breaking with the ball.
Also in the second half there was a blatant foot trip on Heneghan on the stand side also

Not to clog up the board with Ballagh stuff, but with parish rules, players like Andy Moran, despite growing up supporting Ros, never had the choice to play with Roscommon. I do agree the hype is really just media hype, since when were Mayo supporters last outnumbered by Ros supporters in Castlebar - although Mayoman John Prenty can take some credit for that. The danger for us now is the media is hypeing us up a bit, and you just know they are waiting for things to go South and then exclaim: ye thought ye had the All-Ireland won in May. We are very fortunate than we have a very grounded lowkey manager in Mark Dowd and in captain Diarmuid Murtagh. One game at a time as the man said.
