Another unlikely victory. Roscommon, Westmeath and Down all overcoming unlikely odds. Wicklow were an inch away from it too last week.

While we are getting classics over on the hurling side, we are getting shocks on the football side. And its making for two great Championships.

Rossies 2nd half performance today reminded me of their 1st half performance against Armagh in the league this year.  When they are good they can be clinical. Diarmuid Murtagh,Darragh Heneghan really stood up after that joke of suspension for Cregg.

As for Mayo,  Kobe McDonald will be some loss to his county and the sport.
That big win against a 2nd string Roscommon team did them no favours.

That's a statement win for Ros. They have serious shooters and some great players to come back into the team yet. Will be a great Connacht final in 2 weeks. Is Ben O Carroll gone off the panel?

At 11/8 with PPs currently, Rossies have to be flabbergasting value for the final. That's not yerrahing either; they'll be stronger again the next day with Cregg and maybe a couple of the Brigid's lads returning. They have home advantage too, though that mightn't faze Galway too much. Galway themselves may be missing Johnny McGrath and their forwards struggled to get going v Leitrim until Walsh's introduction. A big ask I think to achieve 5-in-a-row.

Counts for little in Connacht as Rosfan points out a long time since Roscommon beat Galway in Hyde Park in the championship.

The most recent time Mayo beat either of Galway or Roscommon in a Connacht SFC match at Castlebar was the 2014 Nestor Cup decider win over Galway. The last time Mayo beat Roscommon in a provincial tie at the venue was in the semi-final the previous year.

During which time Mayo lost at MacHale Park to Galway in 2016 and 2018, Roscommon in 2019, Galway in 2022, Roscommon in 2023, Galway 2025 and yesterday to Roscommon.

Fine win for Roscommon yesterday the ten point winning margin didn't flatter them. Smith,Murtagh to the fore again and didn't miss Dáire Cregg at all.

Mark Dowd and his management attacked the weaknesses in the Mayo team. 

Hennelly kick outs hit and miss at the best of times

Brickenden at full back and Coyne at corner back both struggled in the league and brought that form into yesterday's game.

A championship untested midfield pairing in B. Tuohy, D. McBrien the latter is a defender and I'm sure after yesterday that's him done playing in midfield.

Galway are rightly favourites for the final given they'll be going all out to win five in a row and Hyde park is a home from home for them. They have come through semi-finals before where they were less than impressive and then produced a performance in the final.

They don't have the midfield or defence weaknesses to exploit like Mayo did yesterday and a forward line that's greatly boosted by the return of Comer and Walsh.

One of my earliest Connacht finals. I remember it well. Roscommon were brilliant in the second half yesterday

I was talking to some of my father's cousins at a funeral. They are huriing people like myself but they take an interest in football like myself. And they don't rate Joyce at  all. I think he might end up like Anthony Cunningham. Winning a Roscommon championship but not el gordo.

For every 4.4 championships that Galway and Mayo win, Roscommon win 1. It might be time for some mean reversion.
