There are major GAA areas in Derry with no hurling. Mainly Maghera, Magherafelt, and the loughshore (St Finbars will hopefully make inroads to an extent) people within clubs Glen, magherafelt, Ballinderry, Newbridge etc what are your views on starting hurling has it ever been discussed within the club? Do you honestly think it would hinder football progress. In my opinion having three more hurling clubs in the right areas would establish Derry as a mid level Joe McDonagh team at the minimum.

Thank christ someone brought up the laziness thing. The "argument" was then changed to general standard of hurling in the county.

Anyway, carry on. I've no wish to get involved 🤓

Why?

Football heads are stupid. Hurling will bring then young lads on something shocking. A different set of skills but ties into football.

Look at the amount of duel clubs who are going well and it's only helping them.

could not disagree more with this, the level of laziness that hurling brings to youth football is unbearable.
It might bring slightly more short distance speed but absolutely no endurance running.
What a bizarre post. Not the first and most certainly not the last
Yes but in fairness the majority of your comments on here are just that some ones opinion is wrong or just "tripe" while offering nothing in return.

Tell me why its bizarre, tell us your experience of why its different.

Mine is hurling doesn't benefit football, completely different skill set. People watch 4 top hurling games a year and rave about the speed.

Realistically, Slaughtneil and maybe Dungiven every club in Derry is operating at Junior level, and even at that probably wouldn't win Ulster junior club title.
Bar couple handy individuals show me the dual club success stories outside of Slaughtneil.
You said hurling brings "laziness" to youth football, a totally baseless swipe at hurling & then you made up something about hurling bringing short distance speed but no endurance running lol.
I have been involved in the S&C world for over 20 years so I would love to know where you come up with these hilarious comments
I don't base what I say on stats and opinions that I read somewhere, I base it on what I see. Kids that play hurling at low standard run alot less that kids of the same age that play football alot of the time at a higher standard. Football skills haven't improved because of hurling

The vast majority in Ulster teams play at a low level, take 3 or 4 Antrim clubs + Slaughtneil and Portaferry out of that and include the rest.
This notion that hurling is a lightning quick game is solely based on 4 or 5 Munster Championship games a season.

Don't try and argue that children playing low level hurling in Derry are better footballers because of it, absolute rubbish talk.

You stated "football heads are stupid"  and you come back accusing me of sweeping statements.lol.

I have no gripe with hurling, if thats your thing push on, but Ulster hurling people need to get chip of their shoulder with Ulster Football about developing the game and building it.

Football people are busy enough trying to improve their own game without having to do hurling people's job for them.

As for your strange S&C comment, whats the relevance? Is there a GAA hotspot somewhere else where the data is available to prove opinions as facts?

I did not say that. My "strange" S&C comment was to ask where you come to these groundbreaking revelations but it's the equivalent of talking to a flat earther... as for the rest of your spiel, you view hurling through a lens of how it can help football not giving children the opportunity to play the oldest sport on this island. As for the low level nonsense I have no idea what your point is, most clubs in the country play football at a "low level" should the just pack it in?

Sorry if it's been said but is Ruairi O'Mianain out for the year?

Brendan

The county has produced/is producing some serious dual players and not just in Slaughtneil, just unfortunate for them they arent being given a proper go at the hurling in some cases...

Do you really think there is an appetite in Derry for another 3 or 4 hurling clubs?
Theres are a few lads in our club who play hurling for a neighbouring dual club and I would never discourage them doing it. But I don't hear of anyone with any great desire to start one or anyone who hasn't got hurling available.

Nothing to do with  what lens I view hurling, football is my personal priority thats why I do my best to develop it and encourage kids to play it.
If hurling is your thing thats ok but I don't see the same number of people trying to develop it.

There is a better opportunity to play football at a high level.

Thank you, watching a foreign sport and couldn't find any updates or results.
