Quote from: square_ball on June 28, 2026, 03:23:09 PMNiall Devlin wasn't a 9 ffs. Done ok on Clifford and probably should have started on him but steady on with the 9. Saying that he is probably our best man marker at this stage.
who else has kept clifford to two fisted points from play in 40 mins of football? he also locked down his ability recieving the kickpass that kerry use. he also stopped him coming out and controlling the ball. wont see a better defensive performance the rest of the year.

Niall tracked him well but Clifford got on plenty of ball and used it well. He also missed a 2 pointer and another one. He should have started on Clifford but there's nothing to suggest that Clifford wouldn't have got the same 1-3. Geaney was also giving Niall a tricky enough time in the 1st half.

I don't know if this is supposed to slag Daly, but over the last 2/3 years he has done the most running and unsung work in the team. Everyone would love to score 4 points but not every man will pick up every free man on the break and from there
As a midfielder for one of the top clubs in the county, Daly rarely fields a ball from kick outs for the county
As a half forward he wins next to none breaking ball
He misses important scoring opportunities such as in the 1st minute v both Roscommon & Kerry.
His running back is lethargic & slow
Malachy O'Rourke's blind spot
Hopefully one of the wave of u20s coming through will displace him next season, such as Conor O'neill
If you're looking for someone to field the ball not sure O'Neill is the best option lol. Did you watch any of the U20s? He didn't exactly dominate in the air. Not sure where his best position is

Over the whole U20 season O'Neill held his own. He had a bad final against serious operators. He has a great engine, can score both points & goals and does his fair share in defending.

Quote from: Sean Coyle on June 28, 2026, 02:49:07 PMplayer ratings from yesterday
1-morgan-5- not his best game and missed a 45 at a crucial time.
2-quinn-4- should never have been on clifford to begin with, rocked him early
3-teague-7- solid throughout
4-clarke-6- quiet game done well carrying the ball forward at times
5-mckernan-4- completely off the boil these last two games, has he forgot hes allowed to shoot?
6-devlin-9- sensational performance, kept clifford to two fisted points from play. setting himself up nicely for the future. shoe in for capatain in 3 years
7-mcgeary-6- poor by his standards
8-kennedy-5- similar to mcgeary, alot more quiet than the rest, very little done
9- king conn-8- becoming automatic for tyrone in the championship, does it time and time again
10-seanie-6- done what was required but still, not enough going forward
11-cassidy-6- back down to earth after a good game against mayo, not good enough for tyrone yet
12-daly-4- does he know he can keep going forwards
13-mcelhome-7- when hes good hes good, but time he starts doing it for longer spells in the game
14-donnelly-8- solid and lead the team on his back. warrior
15-jordan-5- times nearly up for him, cant be carrying men if they are not consistent
26- dazzler- 10- cant ask for much more. plenty in the tank yet

Alot of postings on here about what MOR got wrong.  To run Kerry so close he must have got a hell of alot right

Quote from: cjx on June 28, 2026, 03:06:59 PMGiven Tyrone came in from 5 in D2 they didall you could reasonably expect of them and more. The management tho is really dodgy.
1 S&C bad - players out of after 60+ min
2. McCurry delayed needed on at HT or 30 min to let him get a feel of it ( Kerry knew he'd come on so no issue 30min intro)
3. Quinn on Clifford. Good corner but Devlin manmarker better
4. Morgan not taking frees he should. Instruct him.
5. Kickout plans? Maybe there was?
6. Daly ineffectual ok run run run - results?

Someone said rightly hallions needed McHugh McGleenon sitting there.

Look at Louth 14 now running mad very effective.( keeper now ooh bad)

Tyrone management needed in my view Horse Devlin and McGinley.

😂

Jesus I felt sorry for him. So hard not to feel exasperated, one of hardest defeats Ive experienced.

Would have been a massive FU to the critics, it was tantalisingly close.

God I hope Mattie /McCurry hang on another bit.

Imagine they went out like Galway,  it would be embarassing.

Quote from: sam03/05 on June 28, 2026, 11:38:59 AMWon 5 games all season
Cavan Kildare and Offaly noone of which were very impressive
Roscommon & Mayo ( both lucky enough one point wins - Mayo for example should have had a goal in last minute but took a point). Then put it up to Kerry in a decent performance
But not seeing massive progress overall.

You can't see any progress from Saturday without the Canavan's and McCullagh? Tyrone were very good when came to Championship.

It beggars belief that people are criticising that performance. The team showed amazing determination, grit and skill. We were a hair's breadth in that match against a fantastic Kerry team, the best in the country, probably by a distance and has serious pedigree. Given where the team was when MOR took over, it's laughable to say there's been no progress, especially with such a young inexperienced team.

We were without the Canavans and yet if it weren't for multiple clear errors by the officials, and other debateable ones, the odds are we could have been in a semi final and well on the way to our fifth Sam Maguire. I thought the match was fantastic and the ref was good up until the closing stages, but disappointing that the officials made such clear errors and having such a bearing on the flow and outcome in the final minutes.

Robbed of a game against a decent Dub team showing form. Heroic display but the Kerry kickout screening tactic was smart & cost us the game, wides aside.

Its painful not having Darragh and Im sure very hard viewing for him and family. His extra finishing quality may have told.

Our bench options are not great.

Last 10mins were not handled that well though when O Shea hit wide I felt we were gonna go on and do it. Kerry have so many solid leaders.

Would be interesting to see a deep stats analysis.

Tyrone lost and could have done better on several fronts. They played really very well but more needed because Tyrone rarely get an even break at this level/stage of the competition. That is just the way it is; so Tyrone often need to be the best of the best and trying to point out how do that with all honesty might help.

Quinn getting lot of abuse but Teague was poor on the chip up point[kerrys 3rd]. Its basic defending to shout "you take goal side" and they would have him bottled up. Instead Teague went same way as Quinn and DC had a free shot from ten yards.

For fifth point Clarke is at fault. He runs diagonally instead of  making beeline to protect goal,  Clifford goes round Quinn and fists a points, could have easily been a goal chance by squaring it. He would have made up space if he wasnt ball watching.

Kerry at 1-18 another example of bad defending / switching off.. no one tracking kerrys most on fire forward. Punished with a critical two pointer.

The goal was part comedy of errors and DCs brilliance.

Kerry have become reliant on DC for inpsiration, a potential weak point.  He could be gobbled up with more seasoned defending as examples listed show.

Again I think we will be looking for some extra height to help the midfield. Oguz, Aidan donaghy and Ben McDonnell have been out much of the year. Do Oisin McCann or McHugh have it? Conor Oneill coming onboard but not overally tall.

Daly hasn't really came on that much, Seanie has done decent this year but his position wouldn't be secure. Is there many options there in club football?

Again if Donnelly calls it a day could be looking for a target inside but in the game it is now maybe quick ball in to likes of Canavan and Mcelholm will do damage.

How has mcshane been playing at club level. We need a big physical presence in ff.

Would love to have stephen oneill in back room team. McCurry was saying after mayo game how much he helped him

Yes, no doubt there's areas for improvement, but the same could be said of any team, including Kerry. But again this was an inexperienced Tyrone team and Tyrone teams have either not turned up or wilted when the pressure came on in recent years. This was a serious performance, being harsh on the team now is a bit much.

And I don't think it really should be brushed off how bad those decisions were and at key times when Tyrone had the momentum. A Tyrone player taken out in the air, so obviously that the Kerry players stopped and then scored from it. A two pointer opportunity given to Kerry and scored, for a rule which was binned and even then I think the mark needed to be called which it wasn't, adding insult to injury the rule wasn't erroneously applied to Tyrone when the same thing happened to Conn. And then a 45 given for a wide. It's one thing when there's debatable calls but these weren't debatable.

I just saw that Teague challenge... GAA + did a youtube weekend review. One of guys said there was two fouls, think DOC pulled wee Seanies arm.

Fly as fk. Same way paul murphy was blocking runners for foley to run onto their short kickouts.

Honestly thats worse than 95 all told despite bigger stakes. There will be an asterix beside the 26 Sam if they retain it.
