Is it too late to nominate these two for this years Oscars for best lead actor/actress? What performances! The crocodile tears flowing touching the hearts of millions, a bit like that scene in Jerry Maguire.

"As the Statue of Liberty holds her torch of welcome high, there are tears in her eyes as she sees how low this Administration has stooped in its callousness toward mothers and children escaping war-torn Syria," House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi,

"Tears are running down the cheeks of the Statue of Liberty tonight as a grand tradition of America, welcoming immigrants, that has existed since America was founded has been stomped upon," Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer,

Bravo! Take a bow.

I have seriously come to the conclusion that you don't actually believe any of the fascist bile that flows forth from your mouth. You've just adopted this uber-nationalist persona online to wind people up, haven't you?

The frenzy by liberals isn't really about refugees - it's about being sore losers who will protest anything to do with President Trump. Beating up fellow US citizens in airports is really showing an evil side to them.

Yes, because people are being beaten up in airports all over the US.

And the sore loser bit - THAT's why NYC taxi-drivers went on strike at JFK airport the other evening and huge numbers showed up there and around the country in solidarity. It was all about losing the election. It was NOTHING to do with their friends and relatives and people similar to themselves or their neighbours being caught up in a poorly thought through executive action. Thanks for clearing all that up for us.

Which airports held protests when Obama stopped processing Iraqi refugees for 6 months in 2011? Where was the outrage at Obamas actions?

Of course you leave out WHY Obama stopped the processing, which was in order to strengthen the screening before resumption after flags were raised about the system being abused by would-be terrorists. And of course, no refugees have since got through who have gone on to pose a terrorist threat. Its been working very nicely. He didn't do it to be seen to make good on a dubious campaign promise.

But Trump campaigned on the fact that the screening system WASN'T working, despite the evidence (familiar when it comes to Trump), so he had to stop it on a dime (even trying to do it last thing on Friday, when its traditionally the best time to release controversial news), throwing everything into chaos, without any consideration for the effects on the people involved, some of whom were at the end of a multi-year process to gain admission.

We have entered a phase of widespread narcissism thanks to the likes of Facebook where "protesters" think they are rebelling and standing up for human rights but really all they want is attention and likes on their profile. How many of the protesters would put these refugees up in their homes without question? Very few i'd imagine. It's all a show.

No doubt some people pay it lip service by posting it on their profile, but your second point is bullshit and irrelevant.

Just because one is not in a position to personally take in refugees does not mean that they can't support or demand a government effort to help them or they can't welcome them into their communities.

The Muslim ban is about limiting immigration and keeping a white majority

Rossfan

I can't believe that any Irish person can be defending that vile sc**bag c**t that is Trump.
I hear the British parliament unanimously passed a motion condemning his disgusting sectarian ban on Muslims. Wonder what his cheerleader May thinks of that!

QuoteI've been surprised, though, ever since the emergence of Trump and his campaign tactics, that, in general, the much maligned mainstream media appears to be avoiding reference to the similarities between the Trump movement and the fascist movements of the 1930s.

It can hardly be that they've failed to notice. I suppose it's editorial judgement. It would be all too easy for the alt-right to scream about hysteria and ridicule any comparisons with Nazism or Italian fascism. How long can it be, though?

Looking at it objectively (if that's possible on this forum), how many of those Fascim traits listed has Trump exhibited since he was elected (and that wasn't exhibited by say Bush II or Clinton)?
We're getting a bit hysterical I think.

1. "America First"
2. "Muslim Ban", "I'd bomb the shit out of them" "torture works"
3. See number 2
4. Three generals in his cabinet - not that unusual - having to get a waiver for one to run Defence and having his NSA as one - yes, unusual
5. Machedo- pussy - his entire married life
6. Not as possible today as in the 30s in modern western democracies - but "cowed" mass media is something he is definitely attempting, constantly attacking MSM
7. See numbers 2, 3, 4
8. Certainly Bannon/Miller are making national security decisions based on a perceived clash between Christianity and Islam - with a whole tablespoon of anti-Semitism thrown in
9. See all his cabinet picks except Kelly and Mattis
10. See his previous career and attempts to keep unions out of Trump Hotels
11. Meryl Streep et al - degrading of scientific research at EPA/NASA etc
12. "American carnage" - "Send in the Feds"
13. See number 9, plus failure to divest himself of family company, sons attending meetings with foreign leaders, son-in-law as advisor etc
14. See everything he said about rigged elections during the campaign - and everything he is saying now re 3-5 million voters - all as preparation for "reforms" - can't wait for them.

Sebastian Gorka, the Breitbart national security editor and a Fox News contributor, is expected to join President Donald Trump's White House, a source familiar with the matter told Business Insider.

The source said that the position is likely in the National Security Council. A Fox News spokesperson said the network terminated Gorka's contributor agreement when he informed executives of his new position.

Gorka, who has written stories for Breitbart since early 2014, was a founding member of the Council for Emerging National Security Affairs and has been awarded the Joint Civilian Service Commendation, according to a bio on his website. (He recently made his website private.) The national-security analyst is the author of "Defeating Jihad," a New York Times best-seller.

He was also the vice president for counterterrorism and irregular warfare at the Threat Knowledge Group, and he said in a July Breitbart story that he had written policy papers for Trump. He was paid by the campaign for policy consulting, according to Federal Election Commission filings.

Gorka's expected move to the National Security Council further represents Breitbart's expanding role inside the Trump White House.

The website's chairman, Stephen Bannon, served as Trump's campaign CEO and now works as White House chief strategist. On Sunday, it was reported that Julia Hahn, a hardline immigration writer for Breitbart, was also expected to join the Trump White House as a special assistant to the president.

Interestingly Gorka, who was arrested last year for attempting to board a plane with a handgun, will advise the president on counteracting terror threats.
On January 31, 2016, TSA agents arrested Gorka when he tried to board a plane at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Arlington, Virginia with a weapon in his carry-on bag. He pleaded guilty in August and will be sentenced in Arlington Circuit Court on Feb. 3.
Gorka declined requests for comment and his attorney, Chris Oprison, did not immediately respond to requests to discuss the case.
Under Virginia law, carrying a weapon into an airport terminal is a class one misdemeanor, which carries a maximum sentence of 12 months in jail and a fine of $2,500. Gorka will also be required to forfeit his weapon, a 9mm Browning handgun, according to police reports.
It's unclear if the charges also required him to revoke his security clearance, which would be necessary if he were to serve in the White House.

Neither Gorka nor the White House responded to multiple requests for comment. A spokesperson for Breitbart was also not immediately available for comment on Tuesday morning.

800 people murdered in Chicago in 2016.  52 killed already this year

I think "carnage " is a pretty accurate description

Whatever about his politics, he appears to have much more of a suitable background than Bannon for this kind of work.

That's a no then.

But look, leaving aside the smart ass stuff, I've no problem with these refugees being put through a rigorous screening process. I don't see how anyone can, especially after what happened with the lads who returned to Belgium from Syria and carried out the Paris attacks and so on. But that screening is already happening. Its not like Trump hit the transition or even the intelligence briefings last summer and said that the system was a mess. He's been on about this for 18 months, purely as a way to raise support for his campaign.

The biggest threats to US citizens, by far, as from other US citizens, and even among those, muslim terrorism is an extremely small threat.

But mass shootings and even lone shootings are simply accepted as a fact of life, a background contributer to everyday life and death in the US. The risk to the average person from muslim terrorism in the US is way, way overblown compared to what the real threats are.

People just don't have any understanding of the concept of risk.

It is not about terrorism.  Bannon wants to cut immigration for a permanent white majority
