I remember he got injured for Newcastle and the firstthing he said was is something like "it's important I get fit with so many big England games coming up" I think Freddie Sheperd reminded him who pays his wages

Yeah but its not as if they are direct rivals to utd. Liverpool and Utd is the biggest rivalry in england and players generally don't ever play for the 2 teams. I wouldn't have give a shit if owen had went to the bluenoses

A backward move for Utd, unless Owen suddenly turns his career around - the evidence of the past 5 years suggests not. I'm very surprised Utd went for him, free transfer or not - i don't really see what he's going to add that a younger injury free emerging striker could not. It's not Ferguson's form - especially an ex-Liverpool player too who's well past his best. Great move for Owen though, i don't think he was ever too emotionally attached to Liverpool. As others have said it was more England no.1.

Have 2 say im gutted! dont know if im raging at owen or at rafa or what! Just have a feeling that I would have wanted him with us all day long before them! cant help thinking that gerrard and carra arent seething at this! actually wouldnt be surprised if he goes and gets 15 goals for them in an injury free season although i hope not. Not because Im against him but because that would probably see them being successful at the expense of us. In fairness you cant really blame him. If Liverpool were in for him i would like to think that he would be back at anfield but when your faced with a choice of Hull, Everton, Villa and Man U there is no contest really. He has aspirations to play again for england with world cup coming up and this could work out well for him, I hope he does well but united fail! Not an easy one to take!

i totally blame rafa for this. we missed out big time on owen. he was going for free but not a sniff from benitez! cant blame the lad for saying yes to ferguson after playing in that shite newcastle team for 3 years!!

Lads, lads, 15 odd goals a season, Ronaldo 30 -40 goals, he doesn't really make a dent into the lose of Ronaldo and also Tevez. Manure are scrambling and I feel Fergie felt he had to be seen doing something after losing out on Benzema. With Ribery saying he wants to go to Real, and Zidane being involved in doing the deal, another one of Fergie's targets will have been swiped from under his red nose. There are very few players who are really available so Fergie has £100m burning a hole in the Glazers pocket doing nothing. With Villa saying he is not leaving Spain who will they buy?

On a more positive note, does anyone think that Rafa may give Pacheo and Nemeth some game time this year? Two players who could save the club a fortune over the next 10 years but they need to be given the chance.

If he scores 15 goals this season it will have been a massive success. I see him as a replacement for Tevez as in he is going to spend a fair bit if time on the bench and will not start too many games. This will suit his injury history down to the ground.

It is funny to see the reaction of some Liverpool fans and shows how shallow they really are

He was a great player for Liverpool, one of the best strikers ever to play there and now he is a Cnut!!

EC he shafted Liverpool by letting his contract run down after saying he would stay and then joining Madrid on the cheap. He has only ever been interested in beating the goalscoring record for England and couldn't give a fiddlers about the clubs he played for. Sure enough he did a lot for Liverpool, but in a club where loyalty is something more than just staying through you contract he let fans and club down. He may have been a decnt squad addition, and I for one would have liked to see him rejoin, I am not overly bothered that he didn't. I would rather see the £50k a week he would be getting in wages spread out between Masch and Alonso in wage increases to ensure they stay.

Im a bit disappointed that Rafa didnt go for him to be honest. Absolutely loved owen when he was in his prime with Liverpool and would have liked to see him back, as cover for Torres. Owen would have jumped at the chance to wear the liverpool shirt again and I have no doubt that Liverpool would have been his preferred club. But just like when Owen joined newcastle, Rafa just didnt fancy it and couldnt justify the wage demands.

All this talk about Owen just interested in money is a bit sickening. FFS lads, thats the way football is these days. Majority of players are just interested in lining their pockets with only a handful of players staying loyal to the club. Owen is no different.

As for Owen playing in the united jersey, doesnt really bother me to be honest. If he had joined united instead of madrid 5 years ago then I would have been sick. But he hasnt been a liverpool player for a long time and is a long way past his best, so best of luck to him. How many united fans were sick when Ince (who was also way past his best), signed for Liverpool. Not too many, i'd say.

Finally, with passing up the opporrunity to sign owen, I hope rafa has another signing up his sleeve, we'll certainly need it. Oh and I really hope Owen is united's major signing for the summer, although I doubt it...

I remember the things that were been said about Heinz when he was pushing for a move to Liverpool. Was that as funny?

I had thought there was some sort of falling or bad feeling over not being offered a new contract and this was why he went to Real at the time he left. I'm sure Pool followers will quickly put me right if i'm mistaken on this point, so in my defence i'm claiming a shit memory!!
