It is funny to see the reaction of some Liverpool fans and shows how shallow they really are   He was a great player for Liverpool, one of the best strikers ever to play there and now he is a Cnut!!

I had thought there was some sort of falling or bad feeling over not being offered a new contract and this was why he went to Real at the time he left. I'm sure Pool followers will quickly put me right if i'm mistaken on this point, so in my defence i'm claiming a shit memory!!

Sorry this was a question to Pool supporters, am i wrong about the circumstances of his leaving for Madrid. I know someone said he let his contract run down but i thought there was some bad blood or something with Rafa [or was it Houllier]?

Thank God 'the govener' won very little of any note with Liverpool. I did not wish him all the best but also did not huff and puff as some Liverpool fans are about Owen.

Ince proved the point that after leaving Manchester Utd the only way is down.

I really cant understand all the hatred for owen on here, or all the bitterness over his move to united. At the end of the day his contract finished with newcastle and he was looking for a new club. I firmly believe a return to Liverpool would have been his no.1 choice but Rafa just didnt want him, end of story as far as Liverpool are concerned. So of course he was going to sign for united when they came knocking.

He was past his best a long time ago, and even though he might be alright as cover for rooney or berbatov, united certainly haven't replaced tevez with this signing, let alone Ronaldo.

As a Liverpool supporter I'd be far more concerned about keeping masch & alonso, and adding another player to the squad. Needs to be sorted out fairly sharply.

From my memory he had his mind made up to to join madrid and wouldnt sign a new contract for Liverpool. And with only 1 year left on his contract, madrid got him cheaply - bout 8m. I think he even refused to play in a few CL qualifier matches so he wouldnt be cup tied for madrid. Didnt go down well at all with the pool fans and i was fairly pissed off at the time, he had been our top goal scorer for years. As it turns out his injury problems continued and his pace went, so who knows what would have happenned if he stayed with Liverpool. But thats 5 years ago now, time for everyone to move on...

He forced himself a move from Liverpool by not signing a new contract. (Rafa).  So Liverpool had no choice to sell a (at the time) world class striker for £8m.   He then had the opportunity to rejoin LFC but thought he would be better with an extra £20k a week in his pocket and got relegated.  The little c**t has no shame full stop.  United and Owen are made for each other.  If you want to welcome him back to Anfield good luck to you.  He has burnt all bridges end of.  All he cares about his himself and his precious England caps.  Oh, and his tax bill.

Also, you can't understand the hatred for Owen when he refused to play for Liverpool when he was contracted to do so?  Or when he forced the club to sell him cheaply???
