Mayo / Re: Mayo Club Football.

Disaster. Huge loss. Will be out for 6-8 weeks if that is confirmed.

For those of you who fancy Ballina or Ballintubber for the championship, they're both 8/1. Cross are 9/2. Nice odds....

Any word on Kilcoyne??

Congrats to Meath, great win for ye. When the game was in the balance the Meath players wanted it more.

O'Malley - some poor kickouts. Terrible punch for the lead point for Meath but a good save at the end to just about keep us in it. 5
Vaughan - skinned by Farrell. Should have been moved sooner. 3
Caff - poor enough game. Could have been switched with Vaughan maybe? 4
Higgins - poor slip for the goal. Got taken down the byline badly for a point. Came forward well and got a good point though. 5.5
Gardiner - So-so, his man probably had the better of him. Missed a handy point in the first half 5
Howley - Did ok in patches but his man was very influential. Drove forward very well in the last ten minutes when heads were dropping. 6
A Moran - Decent enough game. Was caught waiting for the ball badly late in the game which lead directly to a point which showed a lack of heart to me. That point and the O'Malley punch created two of the 5 late Meath points. 6.5
Heaney - Fairly poor. Hard to see him continuing. Would have moved him in on Farrell. 4
McG - Poor at fielding although worked fairly hard and showed well for ball. Mayo need to have a stronger man at midfield to support him. I don't think he's good enough to be our first midfielder but if he had someone (Brady/Fallon-esque) it would improve things no end. 5.5
Harte - Poor. Didn't do much when moved to FF in the 1st half and didn't really show when things were going bad in the 2nd. Won very few breaks. 4
Mort - Tried hard but got nowhere really. Got a good point. Won a few good breaks. His best year in a while. 6
Dillon - Not as influential as a player of his quality should have been. Still a class player though. 5
Kilcoyne - Missed one handy one in the first ten minutes. Overall very good, if he can continue this form into next year, he'll be a huge bonus. Put in a huge shoulder on a much bigger man just before going off. 7.5
Parsons - Very very poor. Moved to the half forward line after 20/25 minutes but made no impact. Didn't touch it when he came back on. Where has his form gone? Based on U21s two years ago and last year, I believe he's our main man at midfield for the next ten years. Hope he doesn't make a liar of me! 3
O'Se - Good game although he faded out of it before going off with injury. Great first season, hopefully he can keep it going. 8
C Mort - Should have done better with his goal chance, prob would have won it for us. Other than that, played well and his last point was as good as you'll see. 7
O'Malley - didn't fare any better than Vaughan on the physically stronger Farrell. 3
Ronaldson - tried hard but no return. Is he a scoring forward or a worker forward? Or neither? 4
BJP - didn't even see him on the ball.

Other points:

- should have put more points on the board when we were on top in the first 15 minutes,
- Midfield was destroyed and the half forward/back lines won no breaking ball
- Keeper stepped over the line
- That wasn't a 45
- That was never a penalty.
- We were level with Meath with 15 to go. Even allowing for the momentum they (unjustly) had from the penalty. If we were good enough, we would have come back and beaten them.
- This is a very young team. Heaney and Gardiner are the only 30+ players on the team. Nallen probably the only 30 + on the bench.

If we can get the Tom Parsons of 2008 back in 2010 and perhaps K McL in at corner back then more or less the team that went out yesterday will be good enough to make a semi next year . A few additions in the following years has the building of a very good team.

People talking of getting rid of a host of young players are talking rubbish. No point in throwing lads off the panel when they haven't even played. You know that only 20 or so of any panel will ever see action in a given year. Delighted that JO'M has more or less said he'll stay if he's wanted.

This may sound bitter but I think Meath could be in for a hiding against Kerry. I think they played close to their top level yesterday while Mayo were way below par. Kerry will remember 2001 and the passion and belief that pulled them through against a poor Mayo side won't be enough.....

General discussion / Car question
August 07, 2009, 01:00:25 PM
well

Trying to take an old blaupunkt radio out of my car. I have the U-shaped things to fit into the two holes either side but can't seem to get it out. Is there anything else I should be doing with it?

Tried to find car forums could't find any decent looking ones

Thanks

What's the deal with Bray? Have Meath lodged an appeal? When is the hearing?

It's a topic for October or Christmas or February. Not the week of an All-Ireland quarter-final.

Sh*te, should have checked the "allowable monthly topics" section for August!!!!

Apologies

Well said An Gaeilgoir, couldnt agree more. Amazing how these sort of queries / comments are constantly being brought up - is it to undermine the present set-up. we havent won Conn for 3 years and be in this position (those were long, long years), so get behind the team and management with 100% support

Not aiming to undermine the current set-up (I hardly think one post of this ilk will destabilise JO'M ::)). This is the kind of thing people usually bring up in the aftermath of a loss with the benefit of 20/20.

I would have thought that Campbell was good enough - he seemed to be on the right track until the incident with the U21s in '08 and he hasn't been seen since.

Would be nice to have PH in the team alright........

Just considering what players we don't have on the team/squad who have been in the mix up over the past few years. Apart from the obvious one, this includes:

A Campbell
Kilcullen (x 2)
M Conroy
B Regan
B Benson

Anyone else (again, apart from the obvious one)?

Do any of these listed deserve to be on? Would have thought Regan, Campbell and one of the Kilcullens (can't remember which one) might be worth a place on the squad.

Not a surprising team selection, good to see that B Moran makes the teamsheet. Hopefully he will make the pitch.

Personally I think KMcL is a better man marker than Vaughan but obviously he's not showing it at the moment so....

In the situation that Mayo are a few points up at any stage in the 2nd half, I certainly wouldn't like to see us going as defensive as we went the last day. It doesn't suit us really as they players don't seem to be cute enough to pull it off.

He'd had a right to be bitter in my view, but that's water under the bridge.

He was the only that came out of 2006 final with his reputation intact. Great tough player for Mayo over the years.

Not quite true, BJP (despite being subbed!!) & KO'N were probably the two best players for Mayo that day with DB coming in 3rd - he put it up to Kerry in a big way but being honest about it, a lot of his challenges were borderline and he would have been pulled for them in a tighter match.

Brady was a very good player for Mayo but for various reasons, I always felt he never quite fulfilled his potential for Mayo.

Just had a look there, it's now closed.

It was actually from the GAA website - click on the top left hand corner of gaa.ie "purchase tckets". Then click on "GAA Ticket Pacakages".

On ticktmaster there's a Q/F & Semi combo for €65 for section 308 in Lower Cusack. A bargain if the Q/F tickets are €45.

David Kelly, Sligo. Only 19 or 20, classy player if a little bit light yet.
