Top teams seldom accept their punishments these days...... it's all part of the siege mentality that the managers try and instill with their players. Last year the likes of Darragh O'Se made headlines when they announced they would ACCEPT their suspensions - that's how far things have changed.  The amount of appeals that are being allowed is merely another step towards the authorities who are supposed to be running the games being undermined by those who play the games. Fair play has nothing to do with any appeal and I am sure many within Tyrone and connected with Ricey would wish the thing would be let lie, because the more it drags on the worse and worse he looks. I don't know if he is behind the appeals or whether it is just management? Players being annoyed with officialdom isn't something new, it's just that years ago, when you were caught, you said fair cop and took your punishment. Now when you are caught, teams use it as fuel to drive them on and show how everybody hates them and wants them to lose. It's amateur players and managers playing at being amateur psychologists. I'm a northerner myself, and this type of approach plays right into the persecution complex that developed north of the border for totally different reasons since the mid 1960s and earlier. The thing is now the circus has spread throughout Ireland and everyone is at it, making Croke Park's disciplinary team look very very incompetent. Would this happen in rugby...... no sir.
That's a well-considered post. To my way of thinking, it covers a lot of pertinent points and I'd have no argument with the poster.

Breaking news: ketttle in hopeless case of confused identity with pot.

That's a classic, Hardy! ;D
It's also very apt.

I never saw him play but I was left in no doubt that all Mayo folks breathed a sigh of relief when he hung up the boots!

Yes indeed they were abused by the people of Dublin as they were marched along the streets down to the quays. Here, they were shipped across to Wales to be held in Frangoch concentration camp.
The oul wans pelted them with rotten fruit and vegetables; Public sentiment was against them to an overwhelming degree.
However, the heavy handed way in which the Brits carried out the courts martial and execution of the leaders brought about a major shift in public opinion and when the Volunteers returned about 2 years later they were welcomed with open arms.

I'm reliably informed that the IRA campaign in the 50s was called off due to a lack of interest and backing from the republican communities in the North and inadequate support from sympathisers down South..

Did SammyG ever reappear?
Sammy has problems accessing this board. It has been blocked at work. As some of you here will know, he is a moderator on the OWC board and he mentioned this in a post on that board.

Janey, this is the saddest thread I have come across. It's shocking that so many posters I had been taking for granted turn out to be laid off or in danger of this happening.
It seems from the looks of it that things are even worse up north than in the republic.
I'm not directly involved myself as I am retired on a disability pension. My major personal concern is that Biffo and the shower of fools with him might decide to give medicine prices a lash.
Still, as I read through the posts here, I'd be inclined to take my chances as I am, rather than trying to cope with unemployment or the fear of it.
I'm genuinely moved at the plight of all who have come on here and the countless thousands of others who have been laid off.

It has to be EG by a country mile.
Mind you, lynchbhoy is not slouch either when he rises to the evil one's bait.

f**k me does anyone actually read EG's posts?
What has the Shankhill bombing got to do with anything?

I certainly do pints.
For me, they are required reading, all of them, and even, if I don't share his opinions sometimes, I cannot or would not deny that that he presents his case extremely well.
Lynchbhoy, his nemesis, wrote:
so agan from you - loads of text, prob even somewhat well written

To me, that's giving credit where it is due to the fact that he can write extremely well.

Of course, he is inclined to lose his rag rather easily and when he resorts to trading insults, he is unmatched on this board or on any other one I am aware of.
I'm not too worried at times about his political observations; it's the down and dirty stuff I find entertaining. ;D
IMO, he should be compulsory reading for all; especially those who regard full stops, capitals and such like in the same way a baby regards bath water.
But to answer your question, I think EG is making the point that Gerry Adams, leader of Sinn Fein, was a pall bearer at the funeral of Thomas Begley but expressed  markedly less sympathy with the family of Robert McCartney.
If there is any other inference that can be drawn from his recent posts, I'd be glad to have it explained to me.
With regard to the main topic, I don't see how a name change could possibly either help or hinder the efforts to bring the murderers of Robert McCartney to justice. It would be most unfair to try and stop the new owner doing what he can to promote his new business.
It's a pity that he didn't contact the Drew family first.

Deel Rover, has Jimmy Nallen transfered to a Galway club, heard this over the weekend, is it true?

There was talk after the loss to ballaghadreen last year that Jimmy was going to transfer to a club in Galway allright and in fairness no one in the club would begrudge jimmy doing that as he is living and working in Gwalway and has giving his all for Cross down the years ,however with John Maughan in Charge this year every one assumed that Jimmy was going to give it One last push so i'll have to find out Davitt Man

Ya i was surprised when i heard it to especially when Maughan is board for the year, he will give it one last year and see how far they can go. Jimmy has been a serious club man down the years hardly ever missed a game.

Jimmy is definately playing with Cross this year Davitt man he played his 1st match of the year for us on sunday in a challenge match
Janey Mac; he's some hell of a man!
He must be playing senior now for 14 or 15 years.
What age is he? I'd say he must be 35 at least  and still going strong.
Pity we don't have more like him. I suppose you could put Heaney in the same boat.

Micky Hartes prophecy is coming true

Didnt he say no so long ago that he could see a time where gaelic games would be played around the world
Mickey said that , did he?
Well, better not use Ricey to help spread the word or Mickey won't be around when this comes to pass. ;D

BTW: I'm still not sure if Rangers are really helping to spread the GAA gospel either, but if they are, then credit is due.
