General discussion / Re: Belfast Students

I lived in the holylands for 4 years, and aye, mostly it was great craic. Towards the end though, I definitely noticed it deteroriating, there was a spotlight programme which heightened tensions for a while. All the 'Up the Ra' shit is ridiculous, I remember shortly after the aforementioned programme, everyone gathered on the streets, for whatever reason. I was a latecomer, but Alex MAskey came out to disperse everyone. The jist of what he said was 'Yous are all pricks, away home and shut up', but cos it was alex maskey everyone cheered, instead of rasing whatever grievances they felt they had.
In my last year, I was trying to get work done, and fell out with a few student houses, forming an unlikely alliance with an oul bitch that lived beside us, so I know what its like from their point of view. There definitley does need to be something done, and its up to the students to wise up.

Having said that, the story above is sensationalist, and doesnt attempt perspective. For example:  The only person I have honestly ever heard of getting attacked in the holylands was a student who was hit across the face with a baseball bat by a resident who was hiding in an alley - he was in intensive care for months, but thankfully made an almost full recovery.
Also,I'm amazed that some of the above stories havent popped up before, I still live in belfast, and am sure they would have been seen somewhere. Also, just for fun: Strong racist element  'It's so bad that a family of Zimbabwean asylum seekers moved out'
also, irresponsible parenting, taking her baby daughter to work, esp such a dangerous posting after hours...

You've hit the nail on the head Main St!
We all go '...those feckin eejits, thinking the world was flat...', while we proclaim to believe that the wine turns in to the actual blood of christ, and the bread into his body, at the moment of consecration. (Doesn't that also make us cannibals?) They're gonna have some laugh at us in years to come!

(hope God cant get round the anonymous nature of this board)

Moon landings actually done in a Hollywood studio - shadows in wrong direction etc.
Britain wont pull out of NI til ROI gives up neutral status, cos of strategic military position.
But most important, having seen the ferm-mon match on tv only last night (and it was  a crap match to watch):

Darren Hughes was brought on as a bloodsub purely to hit Mark Murphy. Poof didnt do it right tho. I also think Damien Freeman didn't actually have a blood injury, this was also faked, by nicking his finger, or throwing a bit of red sauce on him...

Punches ball how? As in punches it out of the hand it is sitting in i.e handpass, or punches it as it returns to his body from solo/bounce? Latter ok, other not. Refs bound to know if its a handpass its not allowed, so presumably he didn't see it as one...

just a quick question.   A lad running with the ball puts it around his back and takes it back again like in basketball but within the 4 steps. Is he called for a foul because he swapped hands?

Generally he'll get a free himself, because someone will no doubt attempt to break his spine for showing off... ;)

So he/she'll be happy enough as long as its just hoganstand, gaaboard, and rte? Not so bad...Any jobs going? :P

Its not a hot water bottle!! Heres another one,

A woman has 7 children, half of them are boys. How can this be possible?

So it should read: A woman has 7 children, all of them are boys.

Sure thats not a riddle, s'just a statement...

GAA Discussion / Re: GPA - The Player
May 28, 2008, 09:10:05 PM
There was/is a definite problem with players being exploited - eg them getting a few quid for being seen with club energise, when to get that kind of publicity should cost thousands. There was a need to tighten the whole thing up, and at least this seems to be some regulation. I'm no expert in this field, but if you ask me e25,000 is still too little. Advertising and publicity costs big bucks. But then again, there is the fact that supporting the GPA can be divisive ie it could turn away as much custom as it brings in. If it was an official GAA thing, I'd expect twice that.

Man on Fire is great, and was underrated.
I loved 'In America' too, even though nothing really happens in it.
The Donnie Darko, but is it underrated? I think so...

For exactly half boys...three boys, three girls, and a hermaphrodite?

Best riddle ever, cos you always get the smartarses trying to work it out and giving all the usual answers, then it drives them crazy when you tell em. Well it did me, anyway.  :P. Usually ends a riddle session too - hopefully not this time tho, eh ;)

3 people walk into a hotel to renat a room. The staff say one room is E30. They decide to take one room and pay E10 each.

Later the staff realise the room was on speacial and was on E25.

The porter goes to the room with the E5 change. The 3 people decide to split the E5 into E1 each and give the remaining E2 to the porter. This meant the 3 people paid E9 each. 3*9=27 plus the E2 for the porter leaves E29. Where is the remaining E1 from the original E30?

This was answered pretty well on another thread recently. I couldn't be arsed hunting it out, but i'll try a half arsed job myself: People count backwards from the conclusion, instead of reworking the cost, and apparently its the wrong way to go about it. The room cost e10 each, but then was found to only cost e25/3=e8.33. Each guy got a euro back, so paid 9, so overpaid .66 x 3 = e2, which covers the tip. No money missing!!

Noones right about the wee boy on the boat puzzle yet either  ;)
